Lincoln Project reportedly scrubs co-founder from website amid allegations he groomed young men for sex

Curious

Anti-Trump Super PAC, the Lincoln Project, has reportedly erased the "Our Team" page from its website amid unverified allegations that one of its founders was involved in "grooming" younger men for sex, the Washington Free Beacon reported.

What are the details?

On Thursday evening, following reports that some had stepped forward on Twitter to accuse the founder in question, John Weaver, of the troubling behavior, the Lincoln Project curiously started erasing his existence from its website.

After the website had allegedly been scrubbed, Twitter profile, "Comfortably Smug," posted screenshots of the "Our Team" page as well as a separate bio page for Weaver as proof that they were both taken down.

As of Friday afternoon, both pages were nowhere to be found on the website.

👀👀👀👀👀👀👀 Wow, @projectlincoln has quietly deleted @jwgop from their website after Laura Ingraham reported on allega… https://t.co/6HT0u7wdhj

— Comfortably Smug (@Comfortably Smug)1610666529.0

In the tweet, Comfortably Smug alleged that the scrubbing curiously happened after Fox News host Laura Ingraham tweeted out a RedState story about the allegations against Weaver.

Weaver — a longtime establishment Republican operative who advised the late Sen. John McCain from 1997-2007 and is married to a woman — became the target of an onslaught of accusations on Twitter last week after author Ryan Girdusky accused him on the platform of "grooming" and "offering jobs" to young men "in exchange for sex" throughout his career.

RedState reported that "after Girdusky's tweets … it was like the floodgates opened as young men stepped forward to talk about their (alleged) creepy experiences with Weaver."

What else?

Girdusky would later flesh out some of the accusations he claimed to be aware of in an article published by the American Conservative. Included in the article, were screenshots of messages from young men to Girdusky describing Weaver's alleged inappropriate behavior.

In one of the messages, a former college student recalled receiving a late-night phone call from Weaver during which he was asked about his height and weight. When the student answered saying he was "about average," Weaver allegedly replied, "Oh my boy, I'm sure certain parts of you are well above average."

Another accuser alleged that Weaver texted him, "I love your voice" and "I appreciate you, my boy!" after the 21-year-old male had just done a media hit.

Anything else?

It should be noted that so far none of the allegations have been confirmed. It also goes without saying that just because somebody says something on Twitter, it doesn't make it true.

The Lincoln Project is a Super PAC made up of ex-Republican political operatives who are anti-Trump and spent millions of dollars in the 2020 election cycle supporting Democratic candidates.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, it "began as an anti-Trump organization but has gradually evolved into a pro-Democratic political operation after raising millions of dollars from wealthy liberals."

Last summer, Weaver discussed the Lincoln Project's efforts to defeat President Trump on CUNY TV's "Open Mind" YouTube show.

REPORT: Mike Pence Calls Kamala Harris, Congratulates Her On Victory

Vice President Mike Pence called Vice-President Elect Kamala Harris to congratulate her on her victory and impending assumption of his office Friday, the Associated Press reported.

Pence reportedly both congratulated Harris and offered his assistance in the transition process, something sitting vice presidents typically do immediately following Election Day. President Donald Trump has still not formally conceded the election to President-Elect Joe Biden, nor has he given Biden a call. Pence has grown increasingly distant from Trump since the president attempted to pressure him into rejecting the Electoral College certification of Biden’s victory, something Pence isn’t capable of doing under the Constitution.

Biden’s transition team did not immediately respond to a request to confirm the call. Someone familiar with the conversation told the Associated Press that it was a “good call.”

Pence made the call just over a week after pro-Trump rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol. The Department of Justice announced Friday that some of the rioters intended to capture and assassinate Pence and other elected officials for refusing to name Trump the victor.

“Every American needs to understand what the Department of Justice has just made public: Investigators have strong evidence to suggest that some of the rioters who stormed the United States Capitol planned to kidnap and possibly assassinate the Vice President,” Republican Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse said in a Friday statement. “These men weren’t drunks who got rowdy — they were terrorists attacking this country’s constitutionally-mandated transfer of power.”

Washington is bracing for planned protests ahead of Biden’s inauguration as well, deploying 10,000 National Guard troops to the city. Protests have also reportedly been planned at the Capitols of all 50 states, according to the FBI.

WhatsApp Pushes Back Deadline For Users to Agree on New Terms Amid User Backlash

WhatsApp, one of the most popular messenger apps in the world, recently presented a new privacy policy notification that includes sharing with Facebook user data including device location and contact details for chats shared on its “Business” app.

WhatsApp declares it will move back the date for which users will be required to review and accept the new privacy policy, the official statement, issued on Friday, reads.

According to the company's announcement made earlier in January, users must agree with the new terms of data sharing till 8 of February, otherwise their accounts will be deleted. After the announcement, many people reacted negatively by switching to other messengers such as Telegram and Signal.

According to the Friday statement, user accounts will not be suspended or deleted on 8 February. The platform wants more time for users to carefully review the new policy before new business options are imposed on 15 May.

WhatsApp declared that it is "going to do a lot more to clear up misinformation around how privacy and security” works on the messenger.

WhatsApp underlined that the data shared among users in personal conversations will stay protected with end-to-end encryption and “neither WhatsApp nor Facebook can see these private messages.”

“It’s why we don’t keep logs of who everyone’s messaging or calling. We also can’t see your shared location and we don’t share your contacts with Facebook”, the statement reads.

The updates include “options people will have to message a business on WhatsApp” along with further transparency on the company's collection and use of user data.

Thank you to everyone who’s reached out. We're still working to counter any confusion by communicating directly with @WhatsApp users. No one will have their account suspended or deleted on Feb 8 and we’ll be moving back our business plans until after May - https://t.co/H3DeSS0QfO

— WhatsApp (@WhatsApp) January 15, 2021

Noting that the new term rules do not expand its ability to share data with Facebook, WhatsApp said that it would like more people to shop with a business using the messenger.

Graham releases Russia probe docs, slams original investigation as 'incompetent, corrupt'

FBI and Department of Justice blasted for 'Crossfire Hurricane' investigation

EXCLUSIVE: Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham on Friday released a slew of additional documents and transcripts related to his panel’s investigation into the origins and aftermath of the Trump-Russia probe, calling the original probe "one of the most incompetent and corrupt investigations in the history of the FBI and DOJ."

The first investigation – which looked into whether members of President Trump’s 2016 campaign colluded with the Russians to influence the election – was called "Crossfire Hurricane" Graham, the senior Republican senator from South Carolina, released transcripts of interviews with FBI and Justice Department officials conducted by the committee, between March 3, 2020 and October 29, 2020.

"I consider the Crossfire Hurricane investigation a massive system failure by senior leadership, but not representative of the dedicated, hardworking patriots who protect our nation every day at Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice," Graham said in a statement Friday, saying his committee has released "as much material as possible," but noted that "some classified material has still been withheld."

Calling the "Crossfire Hurricane" operation "one of the most incompetent and corrupt investigations in the history of the FBI and DOJ," Graham also said he "appreciates all those who participated in the depositions and their candor. "They have charted a path to allow us to reform the system."

"The FISA court was lied to. Exculpatory information was withheld on those being investigated. The investigators, with some notable exceptions, were incredibly biased and used the powers of law enforcement for political purposes," Graham said. "The subjects of the investigation had their lives turned upside down. It is my hope that counterintelligence investigations will be reined in and this never happens again in America."

Graham slammed the leadership of the FBI under former Director James Comey and former Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, saying it was "either grossly incompetent" or said "they knowingly allowed tremendous misdeeds."

"There was a blind eye turned toward any explanation other than the Trump campaign was colluding with foreign powers," he continued. "At every turn the FBI and DOJ ran stop signs that were in abundance regarding exculpatory information."

Also receiving the ire of the four-term senator was the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which issued warrants against former Trump campaign aide Carter Page. Graham called that acting "a travesty" and noted that former DOJ officials who signed those warrants, such former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates, "have acknowledged that if they knew then what they know now, they would not have signed it."

Ultimately Graham said of Crossfire Hurricane, "There was no ‘there’ there," and contends that the "investigation was pushed when it should have been stopped and the only logical explanation is that the investigators wanted an outcome because of their bias."

Graham said he would continue to pursue reforms of counterintelligence investigations and warrant applications, and said he hopes his "Democratic and Republican colleagues can find common ground on these matters," while also urging FBI Director Wray to "continue the reforms he has started."
