Crypto is held up by people that use crypto to buy/sell illicit/illegal content and services on the DW, and is also valuated by those seeking to upend traditional money (not fiat, mind you) once and for all. Could the technology behind crypto be used to facilitate transactions of actual wealth based in precious metals? Sure; it could. If crypto didn't have the DW, however, it wouldn't be able to thrive.
