Inauguration Service Information 2021

Advisory Effective: 1/15/21 - 1/21/21

 

Leading up to Inauguration Day, and beginning Friday, January 15 through Thursday, January 21, Metro service will operate as follows:

 

Metrorail

 

Friday, January 15, through Thursday, January 21

 

Metrorail will operate from 5 a.m. until 11 p.m. on weekdays, 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. on Sunday.

Trains will run on a Saturday schedule, every 12 minutes on the Red Line and every 15 minutes on all other lines.

11 Stations closed:

Red Line Farragut North, Judiciary Square, Union Station

Yellow Line Green Line Archives

Blue Line Arlington Cemetery

Blue LineOrange LineSilver Line Farragut West, McPherson Square, Federal Center SW, Capitol South, Smithsonian, Federal Triangle

Trains will pass through the stations without stopping.

Beginning Saturday, January 16, through Thursday, January 21

 

2 additional stations will be closed, totaling 13 stations. Red LineOrange LineSilver LineBlue LineMetro Center and Green LineYellow LineRed LineGallery Place stations will close and trains will pass through the stations without stopping.

On Wednesday, January 20 ONLY (Inauguration Day)

 

Pentagon Station will be closed.

Metrobus

 

Buses will operate on regular weekday and weekend schedules, except for Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 18) and Inauguration Day (January 20).

Buses will operate on a Saturday schedule on Inauguration Day, January 20. Check timetables for schedule information.

On Wednesday, January 20 (Inauguration Day) only, Pentagon Transit Center will be closed. Buses will be relocated the east side of Pentagon City, at Hayes Street S. and 12th Street S.

Customers traveling through downtown should allow additional travel time due to detours and road closures around the security perimeter.

MetroAccess

 

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 18) and Inauguration Day (January 20) subscription trips will be cancelled.

Due to the number of road closures in Downtown DC, customers are advised to plan for delays; service will not be available to customers in any secured, closed area.

Additional station closures and bus detours may be necessary on a temporary basis during this period for security reasons.

 

Private buses are not permitted to drop off/pick-up at any Metrorail station.

 

Online tools, including crowding information or real time arrivals, may not be available due to the continuously changing operational environment. Customers are encouraged to sign up for MetroAlerts for up-to-the-minute email or text message of service information.
