Kwaj is a tracking station for rockets, ICBMs and others. If I remember they test launch from Vandenberg to there.

I remember an 'old' flight engineer telling me there was a shark named 'Mag Check Charlie' off the coast of the Hickam AFB runway in Hawaii. The shark supposedly listened to your engines during run-up, and if he detected problems he swam to the other end of the runway and waited for you to crash.
