Look into narcissistic personality disorder if you suggest you think she has been doing this all her life. I have a mother just like this.. also cognitive dissonance is extremely strong it sounds like. Anyhow.. I grew up in this kind of stuff I actually left family for 10 years and I suddenly got better after about a year or 2 of no contact. I recently got back in contact because she has cancer. She is exactly like you are describing.. I can see it very clearly after years of healing. I say this based on what you describe you are almost describing my experience to a t and in fact some conversations that happen this evening.

If it is a recent thing then might be something else.. but you said you think its been happening your whole life.

Nah… specifically children who have grown up with mother with narcissistic personality disorder…. its a spectrum… they are actually very weak, insecure and feed off people. Its a serious mental disorder. I know what many people think of as narcissism and I am not talking about that. Anyhow I was just throwing it out there….. for thought. Had many years of healing from Complex PTSD… Also she had a father very high 32 degree mason/shriner… I know evil I do… targeted individual here… not sure if you were the person I was responding to but that person was describing my mothers behavior to a t… she is mentally disordered.
