Gaetz: Incoming Biden Administration Want to ‘Use National Security Authorities Against MAGA’

During an appearance on FNC’s “Hannity” on Friday, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) warned the incoming Biden administration is positioning itself to use national security tool against political opponents.

Gaetz told host Sean Hannity that he and several of his House colleagues were being targeted for the positions they held on election intergrity.

“[W]e should take note of the language that the left is using — chemical warfare, insurrection, domestic terrorism,” he said. “That’s not by accident, Sean. There are exquisite authorities in our national laws that allow our government to do things to terrorists that we would never allow against our own people. But in the incoming Biden administration, they want to use national security authorities against MAGA. They’re targeting Mo Brooks, Paul Gosar, Andy Biggs, Louie Gohmert, Madison Cawthorn and myself because we had the nerve to actually stand up and point out the need for election integrity.”

“And we also pointed out their hypocrisy, because for all of the criticism that they have leveled against Donald Trump unfairly, they were the cheerleaders, fundraisers and apologists for the people who burned our cities, attacked our police and were on offense against the very notion of America for months this summer,” Gaetz continued. “They don’t want to account for that. Joe Biden doesn’t want to answer for it. Certainly, Kamala Harris doesn’t. And so, they are going to go after the president and his allies and they’re going to use national security authorities that you should never use against our fellow Americans.”

Banker Benjamin de Rothschild was chairman of the Edmond de Rothschild Group.

Baron Benjamin de Rothschild died of a heart attack on Friday, his family confirmed to AFP.

"Ariane de Rothschild and her daughters are extremely sad to announce the death of their husband and father, Benjamin de Rothschild following a heart attack at the family home of Pregny on the afternoon of 15 January, 2021," the family said in a statement, as quoted by the agency.

Baron Benjamin de Rothschild was the president of the family-owned Edmond de Rothschild Holding SA, which is headquartered in Geneva and specialises in private banking and asset management.​ He took charge of the group after the death of his father, Edmond, in 1997. The value of the group's assets is estimated at almost $200 billion.

A private funeral will be held for the French banker in the coming days, his family said in a statement quoted by AFP.

FBI, State officials aware early on Steele made major mistake in Russia reporting

FBI kept silent about flaws in Steele reporting, one of which widely known.

Shortly before the FBI used his dossier to secure a surveillance warrant targeting the Trump campaign, Christopher Steele met with State Department officials and relayed information suggesting Moscow was running an operation out of the Russian consulate in Miami.

There was just one problem with his intelligence: The Russians didn't have a consulate in Florida's largest city.

The anecdote, captured in contemporaneous memos and newly released testimony, illustrates just how bad some of Steele's intelligence reporting was and how widely that was known inside the FBI, even as the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court was being assured by the bureau that Steele was deemed credible and there was no derogatory information about his work.

enneth Laycock, the FBI's current Executive Assistant Director, was a section chief for Eurasian intelligence in fall 2016 when Steele made a visit to Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Kathleen Kavalec at the State Department.

During the October 2016 meeting, Steele admitted he was leaking to the news media while working as an FBI informant, a violation of his confidential human source agreement. Laycock said Kavalec relayed her concerns to the FBI and that others working on the now-discredited Russia collusion investigation codenamed Crossfire Hurricane were also aware of Steele's mistake.

"Do you recall — just trying to jog your memory here in case you do recall — Ms. Kavalec conveying information to you that Steele conveyed to her information about a Russian consulate being located in Miami and that was an inaccurate assessment on Steele's part?" a Senate investigator asked Laycock in testimony taken last year but made public on Friday by the Senate Judiciary Committee,

"I recall a conversation about a consulate in Miami independent of what she had mentioned regarding what Mr. Steele said to her," Laycock answered.

Chinese Lockdowns Trigger "Chaos And Panic" At Grocery Stores As Prices Soar 50%

China's battle with increasing coronavirus caseloads hitting ten-month highs has undoubtedly clouded the economic recovery while officials have lockdown more than 28 million people across multiple municipalities, reported Reuters.

Hebei officials have put three cities - Shijiazhuang, Xingtai, and Langfang - into lockdowns last week to mitigate the virus from spreading further. Beijing authorities expanded screening and prevention measures as cases continue to rise.

Last Wednesday, Heilongjiang province declared a virus pandemic emergency. Also, the city of Suihua, in west-central Heilongjiang province, has put 5.2 million people under lockdown.

"The worsening coronavirus situation will impact economic activity, and markets may need to temper their expectations for strong pent-up consumption demand in the coming LNY holidays," Nomura wrote last week.

One possible reason behind increasing caseloads in China could be due to frigid temperatures as the polar vortex splits into two and dumps Arctic air into certain parts of the country. Goldman Sachs recently told clients that when temperatures dip, expect virus outbreaks to accelerate - and that is exactly what is happening in China.

Last week, an alleged video published on Twitter handle @TruthAbtChina shows the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) law enforcement or health officials or some governmental agency placing "seals" on apartment doors to make sure people abide by new lockdown orders.

Twitter purge decimates GOP senators after Capitol riot, but Democrats gain

The Twitter purge after the Capitol riots left 75 percent of Senate Republicans with fewer followers, with several losing tens of thousands, a review by The Post shows.

Many of the Senate’s most powerful Democrats, meanwhile, gained tens of thousands of followers since Jan. 6, data from the tracking website Social Blade reveals.

On the Democratic side, many of the big winners were the stars of the 2020 presidential primary: Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar was up more than 70,000 followers for the month; Massachusetts’ Elizabeth Warren was up more than 80,000; Bernie Sanders took in more than 350,000, while Vice President-elect Kamala Harris led the way with a 1.3 million gain.

Twitter has lately also been sparring with President-elect Joe Biden over its refusal to transfer over the more than 33 million followers of the official @POTUS account to Biden when he takes office. The company did move 13 million @POTUS followers from Obama to Trump in 2017. Biden was forced to start from zero with @PresElectBiden which will revert to the new @POTUS account on Jan. 20. The account has about 850,000 followers.

A review of all 100 Senate accounts showed that only two Democrats, California’s Dianne Feinstein and Arizona’s Kyrsten Sinema, lost followers over the past 30 days.

Though an unknown number of right-leaning accounts likely bolted in the aftermath of President Trump’s permanent suspension from the platform, Twitter confirmed it was taking aggressive measures to remove undesirable accounts.

On Monday the company revealed they had iced more than 70,000 accounts for sharing content associated with the QAnon conspiracy theory. Many devotees of the idea played an active role in the deadly Capitol riot.

Twitter’s defenders among Democrats and Republicans have long insisted that as a private company it has the right to decide who can and cannot have accounts on the platform, but others disagree.

“We’re living through a really dangerous period right now in which free speech is under concerted attack across the board,” NYU professor Mark Crispin Miller told The Post. “Since January 6th, it has primarily affected people on the right.”

Miller, who is currently suing his colleagues after he says they libeled him for raising questions about wearing face masks, said QAnon was largely a “pretext for censorship.”

Junior Minister for European Union Affairs Clement Beaune said he was “shocked” to see a private company make such an important decision. “This should be decided by citizens, not by a CEO,” he told Bloomberg TV on Monday. “There needs to be public regulation of big online platforms.” Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire earlier said that the state should be responsible for regulations, rather than “the digital oligarchy,” and called big tech “one of the threats” to democracy. Ice cream from China contaminated with coronavirus: report

Officials believe the coronavirus was able to survive in the ice cream due to the cold temperature.

Three samples of ice cream from a Chinese company tested positive for COVID-19, and thousands of boxes of the dessert have been confiscated as a result.

The contaminated ice cream caused Tianjin Daqiaodao Food Company to dump 2,089 boxes of the product, although officials believe more than double that amount 4,836 boxes has been contaminated, Sky News reported.

More than half the total boxes had already been distributed for sale when the positive tests were discovered. Market regulation authorities in other provinces outside Tianjin where the ice cream was sent were notified of the issue, and customers who may have purchased the product are being told to report their health to community officials.

According to the report, 1,662 employees were tested at the company Thursday and were quarantining.

Officials believe the coronavirus was able to survive in the ice cream due to the cold temperature and was likely transferred from a person who had the disease.

Dr. Stephen Griffin, a virologist based at the University of Leeds, told Sky News the instance of contamination was likely a "one-off" and not indicative of a broader issue with the plant itself.

"Of course, any level of contamination is not acceptable and always a cause for concern, but the chances are that this is the result of an issue with the production plant and potentially down to hygiene at the factory," Griffin said.

Initial epidemiological investigations revealed Tianjin produced the batch of ice cream using raw materials including milk powder imported from New Zealand and whey powder imported from Ukraine.
