Is Pell friend or foe? Not so clear.

Cardinal Pell's situation is unusual. Could there be something to the accusations in Australia? Certainly.

HOWEVER, Pell also had opposed some of the chicanery at the 2014 Synod of Bishops and criticized conclusions at the 2015 Synod that led to the document Amoris Laetitia, the document on marriage that Pope Francis has been thoroughly criticized about within the Catholic Church.

Pell was one of the Cardinals who signed a letter expressing these concerns; another was Cardinal Caffara, one of the Cardinals who wrote the 'Dubia' about Amoris Laetitia.

Also, Pell certainly wanted results in cleaning up the IOR (Vatican Bank), which has been one of the problems in the Vatican that Q identified. Some have suggested these charges are connected to that financial reform

It's not entirely certain where this one goes, or how this fits into the Pope's Bad May.
