They certainly want us to think that it will play out that way.

However, consider the infrastructure they would need to carry out a purge and the people they would need to make it happen - the boots on the ground.

The key narrative the political caste needs is the "terrorist" narrative. It's really hard for people to accept terrorism as valid from any faction. Even terrorists don't like terrorism from other groups.

They were desperately trying to set Trump up as a Russian asset to try and justify within the minds of the military that Trump supporters were, even if of the same group and ideology, being manipulated by adversaries to attack us.

They were relying upon that to neutralize or greatly deter the threat of militia/partisan action.

They had to modify the script - and it doesn't work as cleanly. It now is clearly playing out as "we either support a suspicious as fuck guy with chinese connections and fight the citizens who go fucking nuts at the loss of their country…. Or we support the calls for a convention of states, opposition to the legitimacy of biden, etc."

I will put it this way, the Joint Chiefs would not have signed their name to the list of public enemies if they were not hearing significant dissent from among the ranks. They are desperately trying to convince the boots on the ground that the biden administration is legitimate.

They are not setting up for a communist purge. They were scared absolutely shitless that 3M people showed up to Trump's DC rally with almost no organizational command to it. What leftists need months of advertising, recruiting, preparation, and funding to do - we can do with a few weeks and a "hey, everyone, meet here."

Which is why faceberg went nuts banning groups and event announcements.

It's not unheard of for the military to do this. There are numerous reasons why it happens, but there are more times than anyone needs to know where our soldiers are 'deployed' with no ammunition or empty magazines because of local rules or command fears over things getting squirrelly.

There is a lot of stupid shit that happens in the military - although the suspicion that this has something to do with preventing members of the military from individually acting or conspiring to do something is probably a significant factor, here.
