Theory:

Assuming Snowden is not a clown, then it would be important for the MSM to associate him with Russia, Russia Russia! That way any truth bombs Snowden drops can be discredited. Also, if Snowden surprises the public with alignment to POTUS (like Kanya did recently), then the MSM can call Snowden "the BRIDGE" linking POTUS to Russian collusion.
