Interdasting there is a History Channel episode you can catch (check sched) about AF1 and George Bush on the day of 9/11. What they went thru, where they flew, etc.

One of the interviewees specifically said "We had a number of secret underground locations to choose from that were within easy flight distance…" talking about where they could savely put POTUS at the time. They were in Texas after a surprise visit to Barksdale AFB.

Marshal Islands

Since you asked. That little speck of nothing where this C-40 flight originated is Marshal Islands Internation Airport.

Posting this because it fits a pattern I have been seeing over the Pacific. Visits to small and unusual US territories. There have been several Gulfstream 5's touching down at Wake Island in the last week for example. A C-17 paid a visit to Kwajalein Atoll. Dunno why but it feels like POTUS is fortifying the Pacific (as he should).
