Feds Arrest Pennsylvania Woman Accused of Stealing Pelosi’s Laptop

Pennsylvania – Feds arrested a Harrisburg woman who may have stolen Speaker Pelosi’s laptop during the Capitol protest.

Riley June Williams was arrested Monday evening by the FBI after a former romantic partner tipped off the feds.

Williams was seen on video taking a laptop or hard drive from Nancy Pelosi’s office on January 6th.

An informant told the FBI that Williams planned to sell Pelosi’s laptop to Russia’s foreign intelligence service.

Williams was charged will illegally entering the Capitol and disorderly conduct.

The Feds have not yet charged her with theft related to the stolen laptop.

The FBI immediately got to work with a MAGA most wanted list following the Capitol protest.

The man who was photographed with his feet on Speaker Pelosi’s desk was previously arrested in Arkansas.

Richard Barnett was arrested and charged with entering and remaining on restricted grounds with violent entry and with theft of public property.

GOP Majority Leader Mitch McConnell: Capitol “Insurrectionists” were “Provoked by the President and Other Powerful People”

We are witnessing in real-time the end of the Republican Party.

First top House Republican Liz Cheney votes to impeach President Trump and GOP leaders rallied to defend her.

Now dirtbag Mitch McConnell accuses President Trump and other “powerful people” of provoking “insurrectionists”

It would be a horrible assault if it were true. The fact that it is a lie makes it all the more outrageous!

For decades the Republican Party have failed America and their voters. The party in 2020 was so weak Democrats were able to steal a landslide election from President Trump. Do you think Democrats would have tried that against a powerful opposing party?

Hell no.

Mitch thinks he’s the leader of the party. Let’s see how this works out!

Advanced Israeli malware: no interaction, no trace

There is advanced Israeli malware that can hack into your device without requiring you to interact with it or leaving a visible trace.

In earlier versions, the malware produced by Israeli spy firm NSO Group required a target to click a link or open a document.

In more recent versions, the targeted person may still receive a message or phone call containing the malware, but their device can be infected without them having to click on anything.

None of that is required any longer.

The phones of dozens of media personnel have been infected with the advanced spyware, the Canadian cybersecurity organization Citizen Lab has revealed.

Suspected government agents used malware produced by NSO Group to hack into the phones of 36 journalists, producers, anchors and executives at Al Jazeera, and the phone of a journalist at the London-based Al Araby between July and August.

Citizen Lab named Palestinian investigative journalist Tamer Almisshal and Moscow correspondent Ranya Dridi as two of the Al Jazeera journalists whose phones were breached.

Dridi’s phone was hacked at least six times within nine months, according to Citizen Lab.

Citizen Lab concludes with “medium confidence” that the United Arab Emirates was behind hacking 15 of the phones, while Saudi Arabia was behind another 18 intrusions. Four other phones were breached by two other operators.

One of the phones targeted by the operator linked with the UAE used the same internet domain name that was used to hack Emirati human rights advocate Ahmed Mansoor with NSO Group software in 2016.

The UAE has also previously used NSO Group malware in attempts to spy on Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri and a Saudi prince, The New York Times reported in 2018.

No interaction, no trace

Earlier versions of NSO Group’s Pegasus software required the targeted person to interact with the malware by clicking on a link or opening a document sent by those doing the spying.

That would then allow for the installation of sophisticated malware on the device that can go undetected and send the user’s personal data to the spies.

This can include locations, recordings, screenshots, emails, text messages, passwords and pictures.

Since at least 2016, newer versions did not require the recipient to interact with the malware.

More recently, it appears that NSO Group’s software has advanced to the point that not only does it require no interaction with the malware, but it also leaves no visible trace on the infected device.

Spies appear to have used iMessage, the messaging application on all Apple computers, phones and tablets, to infect targeted devices.

One reason the Apple devices were vulnerable, according to Citizen Lab, is that iMessage has historically not been “sandboxed.” This is a programming technique that isolates apps in the system from each other to avert security vulnerabilities.

Such infections have also been previously done through WhatsApp, the popular messaging app owned by Facebook.

Israel lobby urges Biden to ramp up attacks on college activists

Leaders of major Israel advocacy groups in the US are calling on the incoming Biden administration to further suppress Palestinian rights activism on college campuses.

In a letter, sent on 12 January, they make no mention of the events six days prior when anti-Semitic extremists, white nationalists and other Trump supporters attacked the US Capitol Building.

Rather, the heads of the Anti-Defamation League, the Jewish Federations of North America, the American Jewish Committee and others representing dozens of members of the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, praise the current and two former administrations and claim that “some anti-Israel activity is simply a modern form of anti-Semitism” – pointing squarely to Palestine solidarity activism on college campuses.

For their part, some of these same organizational leaders had separately expressed their dismay and horror at the blatant anti-Semites and their ilk who took part in the 6 January attack.

Attempting to shield Israel from criticism, lobby organizations have for years shifted the blame for violent acts of anti-Semitism by white supremacists toward defenders of Palestinian rights instead.

The habitual claim that the Palestine solidarity movement, particularly at universities, is a hotbed of anti-Semitism paved the way for the executive order issued by President Donald Trump in December 2019.

Trump’s order officially adopts the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) so-called definition of anti-Semitism, which conflates criticism of Israel with anti-Jewish bigotry.

The Conference of Presidents urge the Biden White House to “maintain and build upon” the recognition by the last three Presidents that “anti-Semitism on college campuses is a serious problem.”

But the claim that rampant anti-Jewish bigotry is related to college Palestine solidarity activism bears no proof, according to the Anti-Defamation League itself.

Still, Israel lobby groups continue to use these assertions in order to advance their agenda.

The Conference of Presidents offer their help to the incoming administration to implement the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism.

Additionally, they claim that the plan to implement the IHRA definition through the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act, enjoys “widespread bipartisan support” in Congress.

Though that legislation has been stalled since 2018 amid free speech concerns, the former head of the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, Israel lobbyist Kenneth Marcus, unilaterally and extra-legally adopted the IHRA as policy in order to charge Palestine rights activists with ethnic discrimination against Jewish students.

Marcus’ move was a gift to Israel lobby groups that had been pushing the US government to use the definition to shield Israel from criticism on college campuses.

Protecting Israel

On Thursday, the Democratic Majority for Israel, the US Congress’ in-house lobby, echoed the calls for the Biden administration to adopt the IHRA definition.

ADL Hails Big Tech Censors: CEOs Are 'The 4th Branch Of Govt,' 'They're Trying To Hold The Country Together'

America is not held together by the people but by a cadre of CEOs who censor the internet in accordance with the demands of the Anti-Defamation League, according to ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt.

“CEOs have become the fourth branch of government,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, chief executive of the Anti-Defamation League. “They’re trying to hold the country together.” https://t.co/V8x34qbhlh

From The New York Times, "'We Need to Stabilize': Big Business Breaks With Republicans":

Now, in the aftermath of the deadly Capitol rampage by Mr. Trump's supporters, corporate America is turning its back on many senior Republicans, and flexing its political muscle.

One major trade group called on Mr. Trump's cabinet to consider removing him from office. Dozens of companies, from AT&T to Walmart, have said they will no longer donate to members of Congress who opposed the Electoral College certification of President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr.

And a senior House Democrat asked big banks and other financial services companies on Friday to stop processing financial transactions for people and organizations that participated in the Capitol riot.

[…] "I can't remember a time when the business community has spoken out so strongly in opposition to an administration on so many important issues," said Rich Lesser, chief executive of Boston Consulting Group.

[…] "C.E.O.s have become the fourth branch of government," said Jonathan Greenblatt, chief executive of the Anti-Defamation League, which has pressured big companies to take stands on social issues. "They're trying to hold the country together."

The ADL two weeks ago demanded Trump be banned from Twitter and Facebook and impeached from the presidency.

Especially after the violence at the Capitol, it is past time for social media companies to take responsibility for the hate & disinformation on their platforms. The #StopHateForProfit coalition is calling on companies to #BanTrumpSaveDemocracy. More here: https://t.co/sRCfOzFtaq pic.twitter.com/LVFb9Opo4H

The ‘NY Times’ covers up B’Tselem verdict, that Israel is an ‘apartheid regime’

Last week, Israel’s leading human rights group, B’Tselem, declared for the first time that Israel is an apartheid regime, a move that sent shock waves around the globe. But so far neither the New York Times or Washington Post have reported on it.

Liberal Zionists open the New York Times these days with shivers of anxiety. Last week, Israel’s leading human rights group, B’Tselem, declared for the first time that Israel is an apartheid regime, a move that sent shock waves around the globe.

Liberal Zionists know that if the “apartheid” designation spreads even more widely, they will have some public squirming to do — such as explaining why they continue to oppose the worldwide campaign for Boycott Divestment Sanctions (BDS).

But so far in the New York Times: not a word. Liberal Zionists have nothing to fear yet from the Washington Post either. Nearly a week has passed, but neither the Post, nor the Times, has published a single word about B’Tselem’s announcement in either news reports by their own correspondents or in opinion columns.

The news blackout fortunately did not extend to all the U.S. mainstream media. National Public Radio, to its credit, promptly broadcast a report by its Israel correspondent, Daniel Estrin; his dispatch included the standard both-sides-ism, but NPR listeners did get to hear words like “apartheid regime” and “Jewish supremacy.”

And CNN’s website also immediately added a report on the B’Tselem designation, although it’s unclear how much its television audience was informed.

What’s mysterious about the Times/Post blackout is that B’Tselem’s (Jewish) executive director, Hagai El-Ad, is eminently quotable. Here he is in the British Guardian, in the lead sentence of his own opinion piece:

One cannot live a single day in Israel-Palestine without the sense that this place is constantly being engineered to privilege one people, and one people only: the Jewish people. Yet half of those living between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea are Palestinian. The chasm between these lived realities fills the air, bleeds, is everywhere on this land.

The New York Times has long had difficulty finding B’Tselem’s telephone number. Nearly 7 years ago, this site noted that Times reporters rarely quoted its reports on human rights. We said:

It is an Israeli group, not connected to any political movement, and its accuracy has never been successfully challenged over the more than two decades since it was founded. It relies on hundreds of supporters and volunteers to monitor human rights violations in occupied Palestine.

Since then, there was some improvement in the Times. In 2019, for instance, Jerusalem bureau chief David Halbfinger quoted B’Tselem 5 times. The citations were perfunctory, and Halbfinger did not profile the group, but at least readers got to briefly hear its point of view. Then, in 2020, he lost their phone number again; no input the entire year, even though there were plenty of human rights violation in Israel/Palestine.

So, finally, what does B’Tselem actually mean? Here’s from the group’s website, is the explanation:

B’Tselem in Hebrew literally means “in the image of,” and is also used as a synonym for human dignity, The words are taken from Genesis 1:27: “And God created humans in His image. In the image of God did He create him.” It is in this spirit that the first article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that “All human beings are born equal in dignity and rights.”

CORRECTION: On January 12, the Washington Post did run an Associated Press article on the B’Tselem apartheid designation. But the AP dispatch is not listed on the paper’s home page under “World,” and the Post never followed up with its own correspondents.

Censored by Facebook and Twitter? New Bill Allows Users to Sue Big Tech for Being Silenced

Everyone reading this article right now has likely experienced or knows someone who has experienced some form of social media censorship. Whether your entirely peaceful post was “removed for violating community guidelines” or you were unceremoniously silenced for life, Facebook and Twitter censorship affects millions. No matter what degree of big tech censorship you have faced, there is a common theme with all forms of it — you have no recourse. Well, one lawmaker wants to change that.

After watching censorship ramp up toward the end of 2020, Republican lawmakers drafted legislation that could land big tech giants like Twitter and Facebook in legal trouble for silencing political speech.

“I drafted it in December and things have only gotten worse,” State Rep. Tom Kading, R-N.D., the lead sponsor of the bill said.

The bill states that social media sites would be liable in a civil lawsuit for damages to a North Dakota resident “whose speech is restricted, censored, or suppressed,” as long as it is not “obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, excessively violent, harassing, or otherwise objectionable.”

“I’m frankly shocked at what’s happening to our country and censoring does not create unity, it does not help the situation of division in our country, and it does not de-escalate the situation,” Kading said. “All it really does is make those who have been silenced dig in deeper and be more suspicious of what’s going on.”

The basis for the bill is rather cunning as it doesn’t focus on censorship because companies will claim — albeit fallaciously — that they can censor anyone they want. Instead, this bill focuses on libel.

“If a website comes out and selectively publishes information,” Kading explained, citing case law from state supreme courts, “or manipulates true information in order to create a certain desired narrative, this restrictive action can essentially amount to defamation.”

While this bill is certainly music to the ears of those who have been censored, it is not likely to hold any water as big tech’s massive team of attorneys have created terms of service that are so broad in nature that it protects them from most liability. And in order to have an account on these platforms, one must agree to these terms. This is why the answer to big tech censorship lies not in attempting to change these platforms but leaving them entirely.

As TFTP pointed out earlier this month, had the establishment and big tech actually wished to cause less harm and de-escalate away from the potential civil war brewing in the United States, they would have taken very different steps. Had they wished to ease the doubts of a large portion of the population who disputed the election results, they would have answered with more transparency. Instead, their answer was silencing those who questioned it, declaring all talk of election fraud ‘fake news’ and sending them into a frantic paranoid flurry that ended with the storming of the US Capitol.

US imposes sanctions on Fortuna vessel involved in Nord Stream 2 construction

Earlier, in an interview with TASS, head corporation department of Fitch agency Dmitry Marinchenko said that sanctions against the Fortuna barge, which is completing the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline in the Baltic Sea, will hardly be able to stop the project, but will complicate the construction

WASHINGTON, January 19. /TASS/. The US authorities introduced sanctions restrictions against the Fortuna vessel, which is involved in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, and its owner, the KBT-Rus company, the US Treasury Department announced on its website on Tuesday.

The sanctions were imposed in the framework of the CAATSA (Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act). Inclusion in the sanctions list means asset freezing in the United States and the ban for US citizens or firms on engaging in business with persons in the list.

On Tuesday, the US authorities also imposed restrictions on those individuals and legal entities, as well as courts, which, as Washington believes, are "attempting to evade United States sanctions on Venezuela’s oil sector." This list, in particular includes Russian-flagged crude oil tankers Maksim Gorky and Sierra and Russia-based company Rustanker, which owns the Sierra vessel.

Earlier, in an interview with TASS, head corporation department of Fitch agency Dmitry Marinchenko said that sanctions against the Fortuna barge, which is completing the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea, will hardly be able to stop the project, but will complicate the construction.

The Nord Stream 2 project contemplates the construction of two pipeline strings with a total capacity of 55 bln cubic meters per year from the coast of Russia through the Baltic Sea to Germany. To date, more than 2,300 km of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline has been laid (out of approximately 2,460 km), or 94% of the total length of the gas pipeline. The construction of the pipeline was suspended in December 2019 after Switzerland's Allseas stopped pipe-laying due to possible US sanctions. In December 2020, project operator Nord Stream 2 AG resumed pipe laying, building a 2.6 km pipeline in the German exclusive economic zone using the Russian pipe-laying barge Fortuna. Gazprom counts on commissioning of Nord Stream 2 within a reasonable time frame. The holding notes that Nord Stream 2 remains one of its priority investment projects in 2021.

Leftwing Group Targets Federalist Society Donors After Capitol Riot

Former Clinton aide Brian Fallon and his judicial advocacy group Demand Justice are pressing corporate contributors to end their support of the Federalist Society, citing a prominent member's involvement with the White House rally that preceded the Capitol riot.

John Eastman, a law professor tied to the society, spoke at President Donald Trump's "Save America" rally on Jan. 6 alongside Rudy Giuliani, where he claimed that the election was replete with fraud. Fallon is now calling on marquee corporate supporters like Facebook, Google, Verizon, T-Mobile, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to stop contributing to the Federalist Society, citing Eastman's speech.

The pressure campaign is the latest move in a long-running quest to marginalize the Federalist Society, a legal behemoth that has no counterpart on the left. Even if Demand Justice succeeds, they are unlikely to affect the society's financial stability. Notwithstanding Eastman's actions, well-placed society members counseled Trump against seeding doubts about the election and helped Mike Pence rebuff Trump's request that the vice president refuse to certify the Electoral College count. But Demand Justice is still using Eastman as a wedge against the group.

"It is alarming that a senior official in the Federalist Society was goading Vice President Pence to mount an illegal coup, and corporations should stop supporting this organization the same way they've stopped donations to members of Congress," Fallon told CNBC, which was first to report on Demand Justice's pressure campaign.

Eastman chairs the society's federalism and separation of powers practice group. He is also a frequent guest speaker, having participated in seven Federalist Society events in 2020, according to his speaker's page on the group's website. Of late, he represented the president in an ill-fated lawsuit urging the Supreme Court to undo the certification of election results in four states.

Federalist Society practice groups are divided by subject matter and led by a chair who facilitates events and performs basic agenda-setting functions, one former chair told the Washington Free Beacon. The position is unpaid, and chairs take no part in the governance of the broader group.

Biden to propose 8-year citizenship path for immigrants on first day in office

President-elect Joe Biden is planning to announce an extensive immigration reform bill on his first day in office, the Associated Press has reported.

Biden will reportedly send the immigration bill to Congress Wednesday, which could provide an eight-year path to citizenship for an estimated 11 million people living in the U.S. without legal status.

The legislation would allow those living in the U.S. without legal status as of Jan. 1, 2021, five years of temporary status, and the opportunity to receive a green card upon meeting requirements like paying taxes and passing a background check, according to the AP. Eligibility to apply for citizenship would follow three years later.

For some immigrants, such as the children protected under the DREAM Act or agricultural workers, acquiring citizenship could reportedly come sooner if they are working, in school or meet other requirements.

The traditional trade-off of enhanced border security, favored by many republicans, is not included in the bill, the AP notes. It is uncertain whether this bill will pass in a closely divided Congress.

CFR Fears 'American Democracy' May Be 'Doomed' By Populism

The Council on Foreign Relations is afraid that "American democracy" (aka rule by unelected oligarchs) may be "doomed" by the populist forces that Trump's presidency has unleashed.

The top article on the CFR's website over the weekend was a piece from Yascha Mounk titled, "After Trump, Is American Democracy Doomed by Populism?"

In the piece, Mounk whined about the U.S. capitol protests, which he called "riots," and lamented the "appeal of populist authoritarianism."

Before January 6, nobody had expected that a mob of insurrectionists could so easily enter "the People's House." […]

The fact that Trump has been able to convince so many Americans of his lies about the election, and mobilize tens of thousands of them to protest against the certification of the vote, shows that a significant share of the population is now open to this kind of populist appeal. Faced with a choice between their president and the Constitution, they chose Trump.

Mounk lamented how Facebook and Twitter banning Trump could backfire:

It is too early to tell how effective the suspension of Trump’s accounts on Twitter, Facebook, and other platforms will be. It has certainly impeded his ability to speak directly to his followers over the coming weeks. But over the course of the next four years, he could adopt new ways of communicating with them.

At the same time, these decisions have also raised a number of risks. It is now imaginable that the internet will slowly break into two pieces—or a whole chaotic array of shards. On Twitter and Facebook, Americans with different political beliefs sorted themselves into their own echo chambers but at least shared the same platform. In the future, parts of the populist right will attempt to build platforms of their own. This could end up accelerating rather than slowing their radicalization.

Most interestingly, Mounk revealed the CFR have no creative solutions to the "problem" of the uppity masses:

What tools can the incoming Biden administration use to ease tensions and address Trump supporters’ grievances?

As I describe in my book The People vs. Democracy, the rise of populism is owed to a number of structural reasons, including the stagnation of living standards for ordinary people, rapid cultural and demographic changes, and the rise of social media. The Biden administration should enact policies that, for example, help to stimulate wage growth for working- and middle-class Americans. But with Democrats’ small majority in the House and smallest possible majority in the Senate, the administration’s ability to push through ambitious reforms will, at least for the next two years, be limited.

The whole "economic growth will solve the racial divide" angle is exactly what Trump said during the presidential debates.

It appears Democrats are just hoping a $1,400 check stimulus is going to solve all that ails us. The problem is, thanks to corona and the lockdown economy, wealth is being siphoned to the ruling class while many in the middle and lower classes are being left destitute.

There's no reason to believe these trends will change with another round of stimulus checks.

Moderna COVID Vaccine Is Under Investigation For This Reason

The California Department of Public Health has opened an investigation into one lot of a COVID vaccine from Moderna after it possibly caused several severe allergic reactions.

The lot, which contained about 300,000 doses of the drug, has been recommended by California State Epidemiologist Dr. Erica S. Pan to stop being administered while it is under investigation by the state, Moderna, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Food and Drug Administration.

The doses of the vaccine were distributed to 287 providers across California from Jan. 5 to 12.

At one community vaccine site in San Diego, several individuals had severe allergic reactions thought to be caused by the drug during the 24-hour observation period. The health department said that fewer than 10 of these people needed medical attention.

While the health department did not detail exactly what symptoms the individuals suffered during the allergic reaction, anaphylaxis can often include low blood pressure, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, and fainting, CNN said.

The vaccine site that administered the inoculations closed for a few hours after the adverse reactions occurred and then switched to another vaccine lot to begin administering the Moderna COVID vaccine again, the health department said. No incidents of allergic reactions have been reported by other vaccination sites that administered the same lot of the drug.

Dr. Pan said in a statement about the decision to pause the vaccine lot, “Our goal is to provide the COVID vaccine safely, swiftly and equitably.”

She continued, “Out of an extreme abundance of caution and also recognizing the extremely limited supply of vaccine, we are recommending that providers use other available vaccine inventory and pause the administration of vaccines from Moderna Lot 041L20A until the investigation by the CDC, FDA, Moderna and the state is complete. We will provide an update as we learn more.”

The health agency maintained that while minimal data exists on adverse reactions related to the Moderna COVID vaccine, a similar vaccine shows that the anaphylaxis rate is approximately 1 in 100,000 people.

“The company is fully cooperating with [the California Department of Public Health] in investigating these reported adverse events,” Moderna told CNN. “…at this point Moderna is unaware of comparable adverse events from other vaccination centers which may have administered vaccines from the same lot.”

Lebanon Central Banker Salame Faces Swiss Money Laundering, Embezzlement Probe

Switzerland’s Attorney General has requested Lebanon’s legal assistance on a criminal investigation of the Banque du Liban (BDL).

(Photo: Wikimedia, CC BY-SA 4.0)In a statement to OCCRP’s local media partner, Daraj.com, the Swiss Office of the Attorney General said the request “is in the context of an investigation for aggravated money laundering… in connection with possible embezzlement to the detriment of the Banque du Liban.”

No details of the investigation were given, but Lebanon’s Minister of Justice, Marie Claude Najm, said she has submitted to the public prosecutor a request for cooperation sent by Swiss judicial authorities. She gave no further details.

The Swiss and Lebanese statements came hours after the Central Bank issued a statement dismissing as “fabrications and false news” media reports that Central Bank Governor Riad Salame, his brother and his assistant are the subjects of the Swiss investigation. Salame himself vowed to sue anyone reporting on the probe.

Salame, his assistant, Marianne Houwayek, and his brother, Raja Salame, were key figures in “Lebanon’s Offshore Governor,” an investigation published in August 2020 by OCCRP and its local media partner, Daraj.com. The report revealed that offshore companies owned by Riad Salame have quietly invested nearly US$100 million in overseas assets, focusing on real estate in the United Kingdom, Belgium and Germany, even as Salame encouraged others to keep their money in his economically devastated country.

Agence France-Presse reported Tuesday that the Swiss investigation involves some $400 million in money transfers. That report could not be immediately confirmed.

Rumors of the governor’s offshore wealth have swirled around Lebanon for years, but the extent of the investments by one of Lebanon’s most prominent public officials had remained a secret until that investigation.

Accusations against Salame have been mounting. His assets, including properties and vehicles, were frozen last July after a group of Lebanese lawyers formally accused him of violating various laws, including embezzlement and mismanagement of public funds.

A second joint investigation, published in December, revealed that a company tied to Salame bought a stake in his son’s London-based financial management company, then sold it to a major Lebanese bank that he regulates.

Salame has denied all wrongdoing, attributing the accusations to Lebanese politics.

Reuters reported Tuesday that a Lebanese government official confirmed the Swiss investigation involves money transfers made by the Salames and Houwayek.

“Both the prime minister and the president are in the loop on the European move,” the official told Reuters.

Diplomats in Beirut told Daraj.com that authorities in several European countries plan similar investigations of money transfers made by Lebanese politically exposed personalities (PEPs) in November 2019, before the country slipped into its deepest financial crisis.

Lebanese citizens have been pressing the government and the central bank to expose the names and amounts of money transferred offshore by Lebanese politicians but the government has declined, citing banking secrecy laws.

Lebanon is dealing with a deep financial crisis that has hurt the currency, worsened poverty and unemployment, and prompted a sovereign debt default. The crippled banking system has cut access to dollar accounts since last year, prompting widespread unrest and demands for legal action against Salame and other officials.

Salame has led the Lebanese Central Bank since 1993, and is the world’s longest-serving central bank chief.

Ex-DOJ Head Barr Says Election Fraud Debate, Suppression of Free Speech Triggered Capitol Violence

Unlike most of the Democrats and some Republicans, the former member of the Trump administration refrained from shifting the blame for the 6 January riots on to POTUS. Instead, he suggested that special investigators should determine who caused "unacceptable" behaviour of the crowd.

The former head of the US Department of Justice, William Barr, has suggested in an interview with Britain's ITV News that the debates over election fraud allegations "precipitated" Capitol riot that took place on 6 January. Although the former Attorney-General supported US citizens' intention to use their First Amendment rights, he stressed that what happened on the Capitol Hill had little to do with it and was "unacceptable".

Despite referring to the election fraud claims, blamed by, among other people, Donald Trump as a probable cause of the storming of the Congress building, Barr stopped short of blaming his former boss for what happened on 6 January answering a direct question from the reporter. He stressed that the level of Trump's culpability in this event should be determined by the investigators.

Barr suggested that the protesters resorting to "violence" was "inevitable" from his point of view. The former AG cited a number of factors that contributed to this outcome.

"I think that when you start suppressing free speech, when people lose confidence in the media, and also when they lose faith in the integrity of elections - you are going to have some people resort to violence", Barr said.

It is unclear what episode Barr referred to by mentioning the suppression of the free speech, but his statement comes in the wake of President Trump condemning Big Tech for trying to "silence" him after his social media accounts were either banned or suspended for an indefinite period of time. The social media giants Twitter and Facebook justified their move by claiming that Trump's use of their platforms could incite a new spiral of violence in the country, suggesting that his actions led to the Capitol riot.

'It Will Destroy The Party': Rand Paul Warns Republicans Will Leave if GOP Senators Back Impeachment

Democrats, as well as some Republicans, also accused Trump of inciting "insurrection", introduced a respective article of impeachment to the House floor and successfully passed it last week. Trump is now facing trial in the US Senate, which is due to reconvene on 19 December – a day before the balance of power shifts in the upper chamber in favour of the Democrats.

US Becomes First Country In The World To Formally Declare China Is Committing ‘Genocide’ Against Uighur Muslims

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declared Tuesday that the Chinese Communist Party is committing “genocide” against Uighur Muslims, making the United States the first country to formally do so.

“For the past four years, this Administration has exposed the nature of the Chinese Communist Party and called it what it is: a Marxist-Leninist regime that exerts power over the long-suffering Chinese people through brainwashing and brute force. We have paid particular attention to the CCP’s treatment of the Uyghur people, a Muslim minority group that resides largely in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in Western China,” Pompeo wrote in a statement released on his last full day as Secretary of State.

“Their morally repugnant, wholesale policies, practices, and abuses are designed systematically to discriminate against and surveil ethnic Uyghurs as a unique demographic and ethnic group, restrict their freedom to travel, emigrate, and attend schools, and deny other basic human rights of assembly, speech, and worship.”

“The Nuremberg Tribunals at the end of World War II prosecuted perpetrators for crimes against humanity, the same crimes being perpetrated in Xinjiang,” he continued. “In addition, after careful examination of the available facts, I have determined that the PRC, under the direction and control of the CCP, has committed genocide against the predominantly Muslim Uyghurs and other ethnic and religious minority groups in Xinjiang.”

The FBI Says Your “Smart TV” is Watching and Listening to You. How to Stop That and Reduce Its Harmful Radiation

Privacy and cyber security experts have warned for many years about risks associated with ALL “Smart” and wireless technology – cell phones (see 1, 2, 3), medical devices and implants (see 1, 2), personal and “Smart” home appliances, light bulbs, and wearables (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6), utility “Smart” meters (electric, gas, and water), and everything that uses Internet of Things (IoT) technology (see 1, 2).

Last month, researchers from Carnegie Melon University proposed product warning labels that would make it easier for consumers to understand all of this. Of course, manufacturers may not be in a hurry to use them because their “Smart” products allow them to collect data on consumers to analyze and sell to 3rd parties. This is referred to as “Surveillance Capitalism.”

Activist Post reported last year about “Smart TVs” spying on owners.

Here’s another creepy article about that from Simius:

4 ways your Smart TV is Watching you

Today we are going to be talking about 4 ways your smart tv is watching you. Smart TV’s have helped change the way we consume media. For some, it gives better content options than what is available locally. For others, it is a cheaper high-quality alternative to regular TV (especially this year, due to the pandemic, cord-cutting rates are at record highs). It is expected that the number of cord-cutters will reach almost 50% in the next 5 years.

Although, there are some oddities with the way smart TV’s and their market operates.

For example, have you ever wondered why smart TVs are so cheap? In fact, some smart TVs are cheaper than their “dumb” counterparts. Are these companies so nice that they will charge you so little for their amazing tech?

However, with all the good things smart TVs bring, there are some sinister bad’s and we are going to be exploring those bad’s thoroughly in this article. Let’s get started.

Insecure Eavesdropping

If you are going to steal data and breach people’s privacy, at least do it securely! It’s like these companies think that they can take data from their users but no one is going to try and take the same data from them.

This data is valuable, if you are taking the time to steal it then someone else is planning to do the same thing. Especially when they find out the communication channels used are not secured at all.

Why do you need my Address?

You would expect smart TV’s to know what shows you were watching and how long you watch them for. There is some plausible deniability there, maybe they just want to know so they can recommend better content to you.

But why do they need to know my address? Why do they need to track my address as I move?

Not only are they tracking where the TV is at all times, they are also sending this information over insecure channels (as was shown in the last point).

Which means there are hackers with big smiles on their faces and why? because those hackers don’t even need to spend their time and energy hacking into your house, they can simply tap into the insecure communication channel broadcasting your location.

You were always told it’s a bad habit to talk while watching a movie. We would recommend you expand that to not talking while watching anything on your smart TV because someone is listening.

We were told voice controls would make using our smart TV more convenient but at what cost?

Massachusetts Rescinds Flu Vaccine Mandate

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) Friday rescinded a flu vaccine mandate that would have required all children over the age of 6 months attending Massachusetts childcare, pre-school, kindergarten, K-12 or college to get the flu vaccine by Feb. 28.

The reversal came on the same date — Jan. 15 — the DPH was due to respond in court to a request for a preliminary injunction that would have prevented the mandate from being enacted.

The injunction was filed in conjunction with a lawsuit alleging the mandate was unlawful and therefore unenforceable. The lawsuit, filed in December 2020, in Massachusetts Superior Court by a Massachusetts mother on behalf of her graduate student daughter was funded by Informed Consent Action Network (ICAN).
