All roads lead to Rome?

In Italy, 17 is considered an unlucky number. One anagram of the Roman numeral XVII is VIXI, which in Latin translates as "I have lived", with the implication "My life is over" or "I'm dead". Some Alitalia planes have no row 17, some Italian hotels have no room 17. The 17th curve at the Cesana bobsled run at last year's Winter Olympics in Turin was "Senza Nome", or "Without a name".

Here in Italy, you won’t find a 17th row in a theater or a seat with the number 17. Friday the 17th is particularly unlucky, especially if it occurs in November. November 2nd is memorial day for the deceased in Italy, and a November that contains a Friday the 17th is known as “the month of the deceased.” In modern European handwriting, the number 17 is said to resemble a man hanging from a gallows.
