Not facing the additional political backdraft didn't work out so well either. At least if he had acted, there would have been a chance for a better outcome. Trump voters wouldn't have abandoned him. Most people who supported him complain he didn't do enough to get rid of the corrupt and didn't appoint loyal individuals to actually apply the law.
