What Morrison really thinks about Trump legacy
'That's what was really disappointing'
The turbulence and deadly violence that followed the US election has "detracted" from Donald Trump's legacy, Australia's prime minister Scott Morrison said.
Speaking on 2GB today, Mr Morrison said the riots at the US Capitol building were "very, very disturbing" and continued what had been a year of political upheaval and violence in America.
"The last couple of months really detracted from other things that [the Trump administration] was able to achieve over the last four years," Mr Morrison said.
"That's what was really disappointing."
He said he had worked alongside "some very good people" in the Trump administration, and gave particular mention to outgoing vice president Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
"I thank them … and I wish them well," he said.
Mr Morrison said he was "confident about America" moving through troubled times.
"They're an incredible society, they bounce back, they've got that spirit," he said.

Sub-Hunting Drone Completes Successful Test Off California Coast
The US Navy and General Atomics tested a Reaper drone for the first time ever with new submarine-hunting technology, according to Defense News.
The General Atomics' MQ-9A Block V Reaper drone dropped ten sonobuoys were used to track an underwater training target that mimicked a submarine.
The test was conducted in November. The MQ-9A Block V Reaper is part of a research and development project with the Navy's Naval Air Systems Command.
The successful completion of the test may lower submarine-hunting surveillance costs and divert more expensive human-crewed airplanes, such as the Boeing P-8 Poseidon, to more critical missions.
A General Atomics tear-off sheet shows the MQ-9A Block V Reaper has four pods that can carry up to 40 'A' size or 80 'G' size sonobuoys. During the test, the drone dropped sonobuoys to track an underwater target in real-time.
"This demonstration is a first for airborne antisubmarine warfare. The successful completion of this testing paves the way for the future development of more Anti-Submarine Warfare capabilities from our MQ-9s," said General Atomics Aeronautical Systems President David Alexander in a statement. "We look forward to continuing collaboration with the US Navy as they explore innovative options for distributed maritime operations in the undersea domain."
Using drones for anti-submarine warfare could be the cheapest bet for the military to monitor the Pacific Ocean as China continues to expand its underwater capabilities.
Suppose the MQ-9A Block V Reaper is deployed in the future. In that case, courtesy of BofA is a map of US military bases and presence in the Pacific Ocean and, specifically, in proximity to China.

President Donald Trump will officially conclude his term on Wednesday as Joe Biden takes the oath of office. The president has stated that he won’t be in attendance at Biden’s swearing-in ceremony, though Vice President Mike Pence has said he will be present.
Though Joe Biden has urged “unity” and “healing” in recent weeks, his inauguration festivities have so far pointed to more division. The official celebrations have featured starring roles for actress Debra Messing — who has promoted physical violence against President Trump — and a musical ensemble called the Resistance Revival Chorus, which has smeared conservatives as “fascists.”
Adding to the spirit of rancor, Hollywood celebrities are now trashing President Trump and his supporters as he prepares to exit the White House.
Michael Moore tweeted that Trump “was the hidden face of the US, revealed to all. Never again!” He qualified his remarks by adding that Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon were “more evil.”
Actor Jeffrey Wright urged his fans to “wait” for Trump’s final days to come to an end.

Tucker Carlson reveals that Mitch McConnell is blackmailing President Trump to prevent him from pardoning Assange.
On today’s episode of Tucker Carlson Tonight, Tucker Carlson revealed that his sources inform him soon-to-be Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has informed President Donald Trump that he will be “much more likely” to convict President Trump on the baseless impeachment rushed through by the U.S. House of Representatives if he chooses to pardon Wikileaks whistleblower Julian Assange.
After discussing the cases of both Assange and John Kiriakou, who have been arrested – and in one case convicted – for the crime of exposing the truth about the United States government, Carlson revealed that neither man is expected to receive a presidential pardon.
Carlson explained that, while President Trump may personally wish to pardon one or both men, he is being blackmailed by McConnell in the U.S. Senate. According to Carlson, McConnell informed President Trump that if either man is pardoned, he will instruct Republican senators to join the Democrats in convicting President Trump in the likely-upcoming Senate impeachment trial.
“We’re hearing tonight that neither man, particularly Julian Assange, and we don’t know if this is true, is likely to get a pardon,” said Carlson. “Why? Apparently because Republicans in the Senate, and by Republicans in the Senate we mean Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the leader of Republicans in the Senate, has sent word over to the White House: If you pardon Julian Assange, we are much more likely to convict you in an impeachment trial.”

“Now is it legal to hold that over a President’s head?” Carlson wondered, “We’re not lawyers, we don’t know, it’s certainly wrong. But more than that, it tells you everything about their priorities.”
Explaining that “We are at a pivot point in American history” when many every day Americans feel threatened about the moves being proposed by Democrats, which now include a secret police force that would be responsible for identifying and detaining Trump supporters for “re-education” camps, the Senate Republicans are concerned with protecting the entrenched interests of “Permanent Washington.”
“What is Mitch McConnell, your designated defender in the United States Senate worried about? He’s worrying about protecting the uniparty in Washington,” said Carlson. “Not his party, his party and the Democrat Party, in Permanent Washington.”
“They’re the reason both these men have been locked up, because both these men embarrassed permanent Washington. And [McConnell]’s priority in the final hours of the Trump administration is to make certian that they remain punished for doing that.”
