So my story is perhaps, a little different than others. My mother purchased a few of your pillows 5 or so years back. She’s in her 80’s and tends to purchase anything she sees that looks the slight bit interesting. She was visiting from out of state and had forgotten to bring her “MyPillow” with her.
At the time, I was very happy with the new gel gusset pillows we had just purchased a month before. I sometimes spend a lot of time in bed and like my sheets and pillows to be soft, cooling, and very comfortable. These new pillows we bought kept my head cool and were really comfortable. I figured she’d just try mine and be sold on them.
Well, the next morning she tells me we need to find a place that sells her “MyPillow” or order it online. She just couldn’t sleep without it. I honestly thought she was just exaggerating. She was only going to be here for 2 more days and My pillows were great. Maybe one more night on them would do the trick.
We called around, and at the time, they weren’t sold in any retail stores around here. And if we did order them online, by the time they came, she’d be long gone. So she had no choice but to sleep on our great gel memory foam pillows.
The next morning she was up early and packed. Seriously… 7:30 am. She was dressed, hair and make-up done, bags ready to go and be brought downstairs. I couldn’t imagine a pillow would want her to cut her trip short. A PILLOW! One she saw on a tv infomercial to boot!!
I saw the one she had. It was really nothing special I thought. We joked with her and have a nickname for her. My husband calls her Goldilocks. Too hard, too soft, too hot, too cold.. ect.. I thought it was just my mom being well, my mom.
Fast forward 2 weeks. I have a package on my doorstep. I know I didn’t order anything so I was a little confused. I brought the box in and opened it. Come to find out, she had purchased a “MyPillow” for MY house so she never had to go without again. I kinda just rolled my eyes and called my hubby to tell him. He laughed and said, “Yup, that’s my Goldi!”
I called to tell her that her package had arrived. She instructed me to make sure I put it into the guest bedroom so she could find it when she came to visit again. But before I did, she asked me to give it a try for a night. I promptly said thank you, but I’m good. She told me I’m missing out. I assured her I’d be ok with it.
So, I told myself I would NOT try that pillow. Only for the fact at this point, it caused so much craziness and I refused to give in to her. I mean seriously.. all this over a pillow. It was the principle of it all.
I was able to go 11 days without trying that pillow before it got the better of me. I decided to try it out on a night my husband worked as I would not admit to trying it. I put the worst scratchiest pillowcase on it (I didn’t want to give it any help in being “comfortable”.). So I laid down, turned off the light, and put my head on the pillow.
And you know what happened next??? I woke up to my alarm going off… I slept through the entire night. Not once did toss and turn trying to get comfortable.. NOT ONCE!!! First time in a long time that has happened. But I told myself it was because I was tired.
This went on every night for the next 6 nights. Each night the same outcome. Each morning I made a different excuse as to why it had happened. Then, on the 8th night getting into bed for the night, I couldn’t find “the pillow.” I couldn’t find “MY PILLOW!” I started looking for it quietly at first as I didn’t want my husband to find out. After about 5-10 minutes of looking, he asks me what I was doing. I don’t even remember what I had told him as I was starting to get a little panicked because I couldn’t find it.
I had run downstairs to check the living room and when I was coming back up he looked at me and said “if you’re looking for the pillow, I was using it but I put it back on your side Goldi.. and smiled.. he knew.
I had to laugh. As much as a big deal my mom made, I was acting just as ridiculous trying to hide a pillow from my husband at 12 o’clock at night! I made him swear to secrecy to never tell my mom. He said he’d think about it, but only if I ordered him one for him.
Needless to say, we now have 6 of them on our bed and 4 in the guest bedroom. My mom moved in with us about 3 years and still, to this day, she has no idea how I too can’t live without “MY PILLOW!!.
Thank you for making such a great product! (PS they are still as great as the day we got them.)
