Numerous epidemiological experts have argued that cycle thresholds are an important metric by which patients, the public, and policymakers can make more informed decisions about how infectious and/or sick an individual with a positive COVID-19 test might be. Biden Orders Quarantines, Mandatory Masks As Team Teases 50+ 'Action Items' To Destroy Trump Legacy; Invokes Wartime Powers For COVID Jabs

After a full day of inaugural events that ended with fireworks, observed by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris (and their respective spouses), the Biden Administration is moving ahead with its 10-day sprint of executive orders, kicking off Thursday with measures requiring masks and quarantines for travelers and plans to utilize the defense production act to eliminate any further "supply shortages" in critical vaccine materials.

Here's more on that from the FT, which says Biden will sign the DPA order on Thursday.

The Biden administration has identified critical supply shortages of 12 items needed to help fight the coronavirus pandemic and promised to use wartime powers to help solve them. Joe Biden, who took office as president on Wednesday, will on Thursday sign an executive order instructing US government agencies to use the Defense Production Act to increase supplies of several items including coronavirus tests, N95 masks and vaccine syringes. The order is one of several such documents the president is signing as he lays out what he promises will be a more robust and transparent strategy to bringing the pandemic under control.

In addition, Biden is imposing strict new requirements on travelers (and not just on planes), while also enforcing quarantine rules, according to Bloomberg.

While most of Biden's actions are said to be undoing Trump-era policies, at least one of Trump's travel rules, requiring a negative COVID test before flying to the US, is simply being "codified" by Biden.

President Joe Biden will push for additional travel safety during the coronavirus pandemic by requiring people to wear masks in airports and on planes while enforcing quarantines for people who arrive in the U.S. from other countries.

In an executive order he will issue Thursday, his second day in office, Biden will codify an action by former President Donald Trump on Jan. 12 to require a negative Covid-19 test before flying to the U.S. from other nations, according to a Biden administration fact sheet. The order will be coupled with one requiring masks on federal properties that was signed by Biden on Wednesday.

The language of the orders hadn’t been released so it’s difficult to assess how the various provisions will be enforced. All U.S. carriers have some kind of requirement that passengers cover their faces, as do many airports and transit systems.

But the federal mask requirement could put teeth into policies now written and enforced by the airlines, which have limited remedies, such as refusing to allow customers to board future flights.

And it will go beyond airplanes. According to the Biden fact sheet, the administration will require “mask-wearing in airports, on certain modes of public transportation, including many trains, airplanes, maritime vessels, and intercity buses."

Biden To Keep Christopher Wray On As FBI Director

After months of speculation at the tail-end of the Trump administration that FBI Director Christopher Wray would imminently be fired given the open feuding about the origins of the investigation into the Trump campaign's alleged 'Russiagate'-related contacts with Putin's government, clearly Trump decided against it even in the last weeks.

And now it appears he's staying on under the new Biden administration:

US President Joe Biden is planning to keep Christopher Wray as FBI Director, CNBC reported on Thursday, citing a White House source.

White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki was asked on Wednesday if Biden had confidence in Wray and said she had not spoken to the newly elected president about the matter.

Senior administration sources said the same to CNN, which the network called "a sign of confidence for the bureau's leader who has more than six years remaining in his term."

Initially appointed by Trump in 2017, Wray has a total 10-year term as is standard of all FBI directors.

White House correspondent for the NY Times Maggie Haberman had this interesting insight as to Biden's decision-making:

"And for Biden… [he] would have faced potential blowback given activities related to his son (another reason Garland made more sense for AG than Jones)."

She also noted that as for Trump during his final weeks, he "made clear to aides a week after the election he wouldn’t fire Wray, in part because he was afraid a new FBI director would be more incentivized against him."

Politicians among 48 arrested in huge Italian bust on ‘Ndrangheta mafia, hundreds of millions in cash seized

Anti-mafia police carried out sweeping early-morning raids against Italy’s most powerful mafia, the ‘Ndrangheta, on Thursday, arresting 48 people and placing the leader of a political party under investigation.

Officers from the Direzione Investigativa AntiMafia (DIA) immediately jailed 13 people, while 35 were placed under house arrest, with multiple politicians, low-level mob bosses and businessmen among those detained, according to local media.

The crackdown on the organized crime syndicate, based in Calabria, southern Italy, primarily targeted the economic arm of its operations, which prosecutors said had been exposed in its money-laundering and attempts to buy political influence.

“This investigation makes clear what we have been saying for decades. The ‘Ndrangheta shoots less and has more and more ties with business and politics,” prosecutor Nicola Gratteri, told reporters.

As part of the mafia crackdown, police have opened an investigation into Lorenzo Cesa, head of the small Christian Union of the Centre political party, over his alleged procurement of contracts for the mafia in return for favors.

DIA officers raided the former MEP’s house in Rome at dawn on Thursday, according to la Repubblica. The politician has resigned as head of the centrist party with immediate effect, saying he had been advised that the investigation relates to events dating back to 2017.

Gratteri said that a local head honcho of the ‘Ndrangheta was also among the arrests, claiming that police raids on the suspect’s house had uncovered “hundreds of millions in cash which they have not yet finished counting, dozens of Rolexes and luxury cars.”

The operation follows the opening of a “maxi trial” of 355 suspected mobsters and their associates, which began in Calabria last week and is the country’s largest mafia trial for at least 30 years.

With a reported 6,000 members in Calabria, and more in other countries, the ‘Ndrangheta has superseded Sicily's Cosa Nostra mafia as Italy’s most powerful criminal group, and one of the most influential in the world.

‘Failure not an option’, US climate envoy Kerry says, as he pushes to phase out coal FIVE times faster

America’s new climate envoy John Kerry has called for countries to phase out coal five times faster than they have been, and to speed up the transfer to renewable energy in order to hit net zero global carbon emissions by 2050.

After officially taking up his role on Wednesday, Kerry posted on Twitter to express his intention to get to work ahead of the COP26 Climate Change Summit in Glasgow, Scotland, later this year.

Speaking at an online event on Thursday, Kerry outlined some key climate change issues and concerns for meeting existing emissions targets, which he said will require the phasing out of coal at a faster rate and the rapid speeding up of the transfer to renewable sources of energy. Raising the stakes for a new collective international agreement, Kerry declared that “failure at the COP in Glasgow is not an option” if the world is to successfully achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, as previously planned.

In order to meet the targets, Kerry is set to propose a radical transformation of both the American economy and the global system to tackle companies that contribute to pollution and the negative effects of climate change.

His comments come hours after newly inaugurated President Joe Biden signed an executive order to reverse the Trump administration’s actions and re-admit the US to the Paris Climate Agreement, in a bid to set “a floor, not a ceiling, for our climate leadership.”

Kerry, who served as secretary of state under Barack Obama, has been a vocal advocate for taking stronger action against climate change for years, as well as being America’s representative in 2016 at the Paris Climate Conference and signing the agreement on behalf of the US.

Twitter Embroiled in New Child Porn Scandal as Lawsuit Claims They Defend Sick Content, Says It Doesn’t ‘Violate Policies’

Twitter has a long history of allowing child porn and paedophiles to proliferate on their site

Twitter has been hit with yet another child porn scandal, with a new lawsuit claiming that they refused to take illegal content down because it didn’t “violate policies.”

The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday in a federal court in California, related to the case of a 17-year-old from Florida, only identified as John Doe, who when he was between 13 and 14, had sexual images and videos of him widely distributed on Twitter. Sex traffickers posing as a 16-year-old female classmate blackmailed him to share nude content.

After initially exchanging nude content, the victim was then forced to share more, otherwise the material would be shared with his “parents, coach, pastor,” and others, the traffickers threatened. Doe first complied under duress, the lawsuit notes, but then managed to block the traffickers. However, at some point in 2019, the child porn was then shared to Twitter from two accounts that were known to share this material.

The tweets were reported to Twitter at least three times, the suit alleges. Doe contacted Twitter and filed a report against the tweet when he became aware of it in January 2020, but Twitter claimed that they had “reviewed the content, and didn’t find a violation” of their policies, despite the illegal content reaching over 167,000 views on their site.

“What do you mean you don’t see a problem?” Doe replied to Twitter. “We both are minors right now and were minors at the time these videos were taken. We both were 13 years of age. We were baited, harassed, and threatened to take these videos that are now being posted without our permission. We did not authorize these videos AT ALL and they need to be taken down.”

It was only after an agent from the Department of Homeland Security contacted Twitter about the content did the Big Tech giant finally take down the accounts and child porn on January 30th, the suit notes. “This is directly in contrast to what their automated reply message and User Agreement state they will do to protect children,” the suit states.

Tennessee mayor lowers town's American flag on day of Biden inauguration, sparks massive criticism. But he's sticking to his guns.

A Tennessee mayor lowered his town's American flag to half-staff in mourning for the country on the day of President Joe Biden's inauguration. He posted about lowering the flag on Facebook.

While many critics accused him of trying to incite anger with the post, the mayor insisted that his post had nothing to do with Biden's inauguration.

Bruceton Mayor Robert T. Keeton III announced Wednesday that the town is grieving for the nation for various reasons.

In the Facebook post, Keeton wrote, "The Town of Bruceton grieves for our Republic and our loss of freedoms. We mourn the victims of the Chinese plague and those that have suffered its depredations. We pray that God delivers and restores us and that we do not fall to the clutches of communism."

Keeton's Facebook post drew a plethora of attention, which forced him on Thursday to clarify the intent of the original posting, which remains active at the time of this reporting.

As highlighted by WSMV-TV, one commenter wrote, "This is one of the most unpatriotic things I have ever seen. As friends and neighbors die from COVID and our nation hurts, you use the town page to air your personal grievances? This is not the way to promote Bruceton as a nice place to live. Shame on you."

Another critic added, "This is a slap in the face of all of our military heroes and leaders who have sacrificed their lives for this country. That's why we lower the flag. Mayor, you're placing the importance of your own personal, childish pouting on the same level with the men and women who have died fighting for you. This is shameless. I'm embarrassed for my friends who live in Bruceton."

"This is a flagrant incitement of anger and disunity on a public platform," another person added. "The mayor is not The Town of Bruceton. Was this statement approved by the city council? It seems like it is pandering to the worst characteristics of human nature. I expect better of my elected representatives."

Keeton fires back

The Jackson Sun reported that Keeton, also a lawyer, said that the post was "just a commentary and prayer for our country."

"I'm an attorney, and I'm seeing our constitutional rights being trampled on virtually every day, and I'm concerned for our republic, even though I've lost people that I know to this Chinese virus," he explained.

The outlet added, "Keeton said he's concerned with what he's seeing in the country starting with social media platforms not allowing certain communication to remain on their sites. Twitter and Facebook recently banned former President Donald Trump from posting on their sites in the final two weeks of his presidency, and Apple and Google removed the social media platform Parler – which had become a site many conservatives were going to once they felt they were being censored on Facebook and Twitter – from being available to download and access through their platforms."

He proclaimed, "That's not right, and the government isn't doing anything about it. And I was raised that everyone had the right to say what they wanted to, and if someone disagreed with you, then that's the way it is."

Keeton added that the lowering of the flag had nothing to do with Biden's inauguration.

“If anyone thinks this was because of the inauguration happening today or anything else, it's not," Keeton insisted. “We had a man in his mid-60s who called up to City Hall from the nursing home that died yesterday from the virus. He was in the nursing home alone and he died alone, and my post was a reaction to that and everything that's happened because of it."

Bruceton had a population of 1,478 in the 2010 census, the Sun reported.

The Biden regime has revised the Trump-era State Department website to omit describing the Chinese Communist party as one of the department’s main “policy issues.”

That Didn’t Take Long: After Mandating Masks, Biden and Family Immediately Disobey Executive Order

Hypocrisy within the United States government is as inevitable as the tides. From preaching peace while waging war to advocating freedom while caging people for victimless crimes, the underlying premise of nearly all government activity, relies solely on hypocritical platforms.

This hypocrisy should come as no surprise given the mental gymnastics of many Americans and their tendencies of cognitive dissonance. The two-party paradigm, which uses superficial divisive talking points to keep Americans fighting with each other is often times so powerful that it can cause those who prescribe to it to condone even the most horrific crimes of “their party” despite being morally opposed to those very crimes.

What this illustrates is that partisan politics and the two-party paradigm draw people into a state of thinking in which they can hold two entirely contradictory ideas as a single truth—just so long as their political rulers tell them it’s acceptable. Hypocrisy is the very fabric of the current political paradigm as most every elected official says one thing to get elected and does something entirely different once in office. After all, it takes very little effort for sociopaths to lie to get what they want.

As 18th century philosopher, Edmund Burke points out, “hypocrisy can afford to be magnificent in its promises, for never intending to go beyond promise, it costs nothing.”

Showing just how rife this negative trait is among politicians is the fact that President Joe Biden’s hypocrisy started as he was being sworn in. As he preached about the American dream, freedom, and unity, he was surrounded by 25,000 troops, several tons of razor wire, concrete barricades, 10-foot tall fences, and bulletproof glass in a scene that would have made Kim Jong Un jealous. But that was only the beginning.

After leaving the capitol, the new president signed a slew of executive orders — bypassing the democratic process that he just claimed to champion — one of which mandated masks on all federal properties.

“The most pressing of his priorities are measures to combat the deadly coronavirus pandemic,” WaPo reported. “Biden signed executive actions to require masks on all federal grounds and asked agencies to extend moratoriums on evictions and on federal student loan payments.”

“Wearing masks isn’t a partisan issue — it’s a patriotic act that can save countless lives,” Biden tweeted on Wednesday evening. “That’s why I signed an executive order today issuing a mask mandate on federal property. It’s time to mask up, America.”

U.S. Chamber to Joe Biden: You Can Help Americans by Importing Foreign Workers

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce says its corporate members can create jobs for Americans if President Joe Biden’s amnesty and migration bill provides them with “the world’s most talented and industrious people.”

The chamber made the January 20 press statement as it applauded Biden’s draft “U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021” that would dramatically accelerate the inflow of foreign workers into Americans’ blue-collar and white-collar jobs. The statement said:

The changes proposed in President Biden’s legislative plan would help many businesses meet their critical workforce needs. Having the world’s most talented and industrious people contribute to our economy drives growth, and in turn, creates jobs for hardworking Americans.

“Nobody believes that,” responded Jessica Vaughan, policy director at the Center for Immigration Studies. The chamber’s companies have shown they want to bring in lower-skilled compliant migrants to take the support jobs created by higher-skilled migrants, even though millions of creative, hard-working, and outspoken Americans are ready to fill both categories of jobs, she said.

The Chamber’s support for Biden’s labor importation bill was explained by Tom Collamore, a former vice president at the chamber. “This is key to stimulating investment of capital [money] that has been sitting on the sidelines, and which would lead to new jobs and economic growth,” Collamore said in a January 19 New York Times article.

“They’re hoarding [the sidelined capital] because they want to invest in [low wage] foreign workers … instead of using it to advance productivity, technology, or wages for American workers,” Vaughan responded. “It is a pretty straightforward admission that what they’re concerned about is their own profits, not the well-being of workers or [technological] modernization.”

“The chamber thinks that Americans who are out of work are not industrious or talented and should be consigned to subsidiary jobs, welfare, and the dole for the rest of their lives,” she added.

In the 2020 election, the U.S. Chamber backed numerous Democratic candidates, largely because the Democrats promised to inflate the labor supply with cheap foreign workers.

“If you have ten people for every job, you’re not gonna have a drive [up] in wages,” Tom Donohue, the CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, explained to Breitbart News in January 2020. “If you have five people for every ten jobs, wages are going to go up,” he complained.

The vast majority of Americans tell pollsters that the federal government should ensure Americans have decent jobs before it allows companies to import more foreign workers.

The polls show Americans’ deep and broad opposition to labor migration and the inflow of temporary contract workers into the skilled jobs needed by young and mid-career American graduates.

The French government will force all public-facing businesses to set up QR codes for customers to scan to keep track of those who entered in case of a coronavirus outbreak.

The QR codes, which can be scanned with a mobile phone, will replace physical sign-in books currently used to track and inform those who may have come into contact with someone who has tested positive for the Chinese coronavirus.

According to a report from broadcaster BFMTV, the government will use the QR codes in conjunction with the “TousAntiCovid” (AllAgainstCovid) mobile phone app to trace possible infections at businesses deemed to be high risk, once those venues reopen.

At least 12.5 million people in France have downloaded the TousAntiCovid app, and the French government hopes that at least 15 million will install it. The app has tracked 99,000 positive coronavirus cases so far, notifying 54,000 contacts in the trace system.

Other countries have released similar tech, such as the UK. NHSX, the digital arm of Britain’s NHS, designed the app in partnership with the GCHQ intelligence agency last year.

Its launch sparked privacy concerns, but NHSX’s CEO, Matthew Gould, attempted to downplay privacy fears, saying: “We’re balancing privacy with the need for the public health authorities to get insight into what contacts are more risky.”

“It was our view that a centralised approach gave us some very important data that gives serious insight into the virus. We will keep it under constant review and if we need to change, we will,” Gould added.

Last April, France openly called on tech giants Apple and Google to remove privacy protections for its users to allow the government to track its citizens more easily.

UK Medic: Covid Passports ‘Unavoidable’ as Nations Introduce Quarantine-Free Arrivals for Vaccinated Flyers

A “leading travel health expert” has said coronavirus vaccine passports are now “ultimately unavoidable”, as Britain and the EU examine plans, and some nations open their borders to vaccinated travellers.

Proving to airlines or foreign governments that you have received a coronavirus vaccination will become a standard part of travel, said London doctor Dr Richard Dawood. The medic, cited by the Daily Telegraph as a “leading travel health expert”, made a nod to some public unease over making healthcare paperwork a requirement to lead an ordinary life, but nevertheless remarked: “Regardless of how any of us feel about the idea of ‘vaccine passports’ for travel, they will ultimately be unavoidable.”

Dr Dawood said in remarks to the newspaper:

Once countries begin insisting on proof of Covid immunity from arriving travellers, there will be little option but to embrace the challenge.

We all long for travel to return to normal. But entry requirements will remain as long as countries feel insecure, perhaps until most people have been vaccinated worldwide. Social distancing, sanitisers, face masks on flights, delays, red tape, and last-minute changes of plan, will stay a fact of travel until then.

The comments come as vaccination papers for travel, and even so-called coronavirus passports, become a reality across Europe. The European Union itself is set to recognise standardised vaccination passports. Margaritis Schinas, the European Commission’s vice-president, remarked this week: “We feel that now this is the time for these vaccine certificates to be recognised across the European Union, and even beyond the European Union.”

Several European nations are working on vaccination paperwork to open up avenues towards pre-lockdown life, including Spain and the United Kingdom. While the UK has denied it is planning to deploy coronavirus papers, it has awarded contracts to tech firms to build prototypes for the system.

Other European states have acted unilaterally to give beneficial treatment to those who can prove they have been vaccinated. Cyprus and Romania require new arrivals from overseas to go into self-isolation for weeks upon landing in the country, but both have now said they will waive the vaccination requirement.

Joe Biden Removes Winston Churchill Bust, Andrew Jackson Painting from Oval Office

President Joe Biden shuffled the decor in the Oval Office after former President Donald Trump left Wednesday, removing the bust of Winston Churchill and the painting of former populist Democrat President Andrew Jackson.

Instead, Joe Biden added several additional busts to the office, busts of Robert F. Kennedy, Cesar Chavez, Rosa Parks, and former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt, according to the Washington Post, who got an exclusive preview of the new decor in the Oval Office.

Trump notably reinstated the bust of Winston Churchill when he became president after former President Barack Obama controversially removed it. Trump kept the Martin Luther King Jr. bust that Obama displayed in the Oval Office, and Biden has also kept it in the room.

Trump also featured in the Oval Office a large portrait of former President Andrew Jackson.

Biden removed the Jackson painting and replaced it with a portrait of Benjamin Franklin. Biden also hung a large portrait of Democrat hero former President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

An admitted fan of the Broadway musical Hamilton, Biden also included a portrait of Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson in the Oval Office. White House staff noted to the Post that they were political rivals but historic figures in the formation of the country.

Biden also removed the flags of the different branches of the United States military, choosing to only display an American flag and a flag with the presidential seal.

Biden Institute Refuses To Disclose Donors; Blinken Faces Questions Over $22 Million In Anonymous Chinese Contributions

The Biden Institute at the University of Delaware has refused to disclose all of its donors now that Joe Biden is President, according to Politico.

The Institute, established in 2017 with a goal of raising $20 million, promises to embody the spirit of "honesty, integrity, compassion and courage" that it claims Biden stands for - yet, as Politico notes, "the Biden Institute continues to engage in a multimillion-dollar fundraising campaign, which could attract donations from those interested in currying favor with the Biden administration."

Meanwhile, Biden's pick for Secretary of State, Tony Blinken, is facing calls to explain over $20 million in anonymous Chinese funding of the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, established in 2018 and run by Blinken since its inception along with former Obama Administration aides.

The National Legal and Policy Center (NPLC) is demanding "that the University of Pennsylvania and its Penn Biden Center disclose the identity of $22 million in anonymous Chinese donations since 2017, including a single eye-popping donation of $14.5 million given on May 29, 2018, shortly after the opening of the Biden Center in Washington, DC. Altogether, China gave $67 million in two years to the University of Pennsylvania."

Apparently nobody asked Blinken about this during his confirmation hearing on Tuesday.

At least 28 people with ties to Biden nonprofits and academic centers have either advised his transition or are joining the Biden administration.

Tony Blinken, Biden’s pick for secretary of State, worked as a managing director at the Penn Biden Center and was paid nearly $80,000 in the first six months of 2019, according to his personal financial disclosure.

Other Penn Biden Center alumni joining the administration include Steve Ricchetti, who will be a White House counselor to Biden; Brian McKeon, Biden’s choice for a top State Department post; Colin Kahl, Biden’s pick for under secretary of Defense for policy; Jeff Prescott, whom Biden will nominate as deputy ambassador to the United Nations; and Carlyn Reichel, Juan Gonzalez and Ariana Berengaut, all of whom will serve on the National Security Council staff.

Ted Kaufman, who’s running the transition, served as the Biden Foundation’s chair, and Louisa Terrell, who will be Biden’s White House legislative affairs director, drew a salary of more than $220,000 as its executive director, according to a tax filing. -Politico

Biden’s Key Role in the Crime of the Century: The 2003 U.S. Invasion of Iraq

Joe Biden presents himself as an empathetic guy who is willing to go the extra mile to help people overcome their personal tragedies.

However, Biden has throughout his career endorsed policies that caused countless personal tragedies for millions of people.

The best example is his support for the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq.

It led to the deaths and wounding of thousands of U.S. soldiers, killing of an estimated one million Iraqis, and destabilization of a wide swath of the Middle East.

In 2002, Biden was riding high, as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, in his 30th year in the Senate.

Having supported Ronald Reagan’s invasion of Grenada in 1983 and bombing of Libya in 1986, Biden went on to embrace George H.W. Bush’s invasion of Panama in 1991, and Bill Clinton’s bombing of Kosovo in 1999.[1]

When Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein (1979-2003) invaded Kuwait in 1991, Biden did vote against invading Iraq, believing that Bush had not made the case for war and that Hussein could be contained through an international embargo.

However, once Bush went to war, Biden declared that he was giving Bush his total support, and praised Bush for displaying real “leadership,” never mentioning the 110,000 civilians who died.[2]

Following the 9/11 attacks, Biden supported the invasion of Afghanistan and tried to raise funds for a Marshall Plan-type program to fund the country’s reconstruction.

Biden was so well connected to President George W. Bush in this period that he had a secure phone line to the White House set up in his home and met with Bush privately to plot out a public relations message for the Afghan War.[3]

The New Republic termed Biden “the Democratic Party’s de facto spokesman on the war against terrorism.”

More than 100 Civil Rights Groups Agree: We Don't Need New Domestic Terrorism Laws

Their letter to Congress warns about inevitable abuses against religious and racial minorities.

Civil rights groups across the country are urging President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, as well as Congressional Democrats, not to pass new laws to address any potential threats from white nationalists emboldened by and loyal to former President Donald Trump.

In a letter dated Tuesday, 135 civil rights organizations—ranging from religious groups, immigration advocates, and LGBT organizations to the American Civil Liberties Union and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People—expressed their concerns about calls to pass new criminal laws in the wake of the riot and temporary invasion of the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters:

The Justice Department (DOJ), including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has over 50 terrorism-related statutes it can use to investigate and prosecute criminal conduct, including white supremacist violence, as well as dozens of other federal statutes relating to hate crimes, organized crime, and violent crimes. The failure to confront and hold accountable white nationalist violence is not a question of not having appropriate tools to employ, but a failure to use those on hand. To date, DOJ has simply decided as a matter of policy and practice not to prioritize white nationalist crimes.

The letter is necessary because Biden and his administration came into the White House already planning to focus on domestic terrorism, and one possibility the transition team was mulling over is the Confronting Threats of Domestic Terrorism Act, H.R. 4192, which was introduced in 2019 by Rep. Adam Schiff (D–Calif.).

The act establishes new offenses whenever somebody commits a violent crime "with the intent to intimidate or coerce a civilian population, influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion, or affect the conduct of a government." The law covers crimes such as kidnapping, murder, and assault with a dangerous weapon, as well as property damage that "creates a substantial risk of serious bodily injury to any other person."

The signatories on the letter know exactly where this kind of legislating leads. We literally just said goodbye to a president who ordered the Department of Justice to use every federal law it could against antifa protesters. The letter observes:
