At least five people are dead after a large fire broke out at the site of the world’s largest vaccine producer located in western India Thursday.

Images from Reuters partner ANI showed black smoke coming from a building which was still under construction at the Serum Institute of India’s facilities in Pune. The fire was brought under control, but officials later announced five people had died.

Serum Institute of India has been contracted to produce about 50 million doses a month of vaccine developed by Oxford University and Astrazeneca at other facilities on the company’s complex. In an interview with The Associated Press last month, Poonawalla said he’s aiming to increase production from 1.5 billion doses to 2.5 billion annually by the end of 2021. The facility under construction was part of the expansion, but Poonawalla said the fire will not affect production of the vaccine, known locally as Covishield.

“I would like to reassure all governments & the public that there would be no loss of #COVISHIELD production due to multiple production buildings that I had kept in reserve to deal with such contingencies at @SerumInstIndia,” he tweeted.

Former President Donald Trump is a “sociopath” and his Republican Party needs to be destroyed, according to former Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) James Comey.

In an interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on Thursday, Comey discussed the political tensions in the United States and argued that Trump is to blame for the unprecedented “drop in trust in our institutions.”

Comey — who was appointed FBI director by Barack Obama in 2013 and was fired by Trump in 2017 — said that Trump did tremendous damage to American institutions by constantly “lying” and misleading his supporters.

Women across the Air Force and Space Force rejoiced on Thursday to the news that the service will allow them to wear their hair longer than before, thereby loosening constraints that many airmen said had resulted in migraines, hair damage, and hair loss.

The new grooming standards allow Air Force and Space Force women to wear their hair in up to two braids or a single ponytail with bulk not exceeding the width of the head and length not extending below a horizontal line running between the top of each sleeve inseam at the underarm through the shoulder blades, according to a press release. In addition, women’s bangs may now touch their eyebrows, but not cover their eyes.

The branch’s top enlisted airman, Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force JoAnne Bass, said the changes reflect the diversity of the force.

“Not all women have the same type of hair, and these standards need to reflect the diverse force that we are,” Bass wrote on her Facebook page. “I’m happy we were able to accelerate this change for our Airmen, and proud to say that we are only just getting started.”

Top Democrats who have been outspoken about far-right violence were silent when leftist extremists vandalized the Portland, Oregon headquarters of the Democratic Party on Wednesday.

Vocal members from the Democratic Party—including Congresswomen Cori Bush, Ayanna Pressley and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, President Joe Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer—have not publicly condemned the vandalism to their party's Portland headquarters. Democratic Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler has also remained silent. They, among other Democrats, previously condemned far-right extremists activities, especially the riot at the U.S. Capitol Building on Jan. 6.

In the hours following the demonstrations, Democrats took to social media to praise Biden's swift approval of a number of executive orders addressing issues such as climate change, immigration and COVID-19 relief measures. There were no official statements from Democrats that deemed the demonstrations to be acts of terrorism.

The Democratic Party of Oregon told Newsweek it had no additional comment at the time of publication.

The Federalist Senior Editor Mollie Hemingway slammed the corporate media’s hypocritical coverage of President Joe Biden’s inauguration, saying it was a “tongue bath.”

“Yesterday was horrible to watch how the media were losing all sense of themselves. The tongue baths that they gave Joe Biden, it was just embarrassing to watch. It was like watching a Jeffrey Toobin Zoom call or something,” Hemingway said.
