'GO NOW:' Level 3 evacuation in Grant County issued after fire breaks out at potato plant

WARDEN, Wash. — A massive fire at a Warden potato plant has escalated Thursday night, leading authorities to issue a Level 3 evacuation notice and telling residents to "GO NOW."

Authorities said the fire started at about 5:30 p.m. at the Washington Potato County plant at 1900 West 1st Street in Warden. Employees safely evacuated the fire, which started in the dehydrator. No injuries were reported, authorities said.

A Level 3 evacuation note was issued after 8 p.m., meaning people in Grant County, Washington and areas west of Road U-SE and south of SR170 in Warden should leave the area immediately.

Law enforcement officers are going door-to-door to notify persons in the Level 3 area.

Authorities said the hazard threatens your safety and the safety of your family. Officials are advising people about what roads you should take to leave the area. Emergency services may not be able to help you later if you decide to stay.
