As one reply already noted, impeachments are for removal from office, and disqualification to hold office in the future.
If they go through with this sham impeachment, then:
-
They want to keep Trump from running in 2024.
-
They want to add insult to injury (so much for their pathetic calls for unity).
-
They want to dampen the patriot movement (if we can get him, we can get anyone!).
-
They want to demonstrate the constitution is functionally invalid (cannot impeach a former office holder).
If they do have a trial and if the rules for the impeachment trial are similar to others in recent memory (an actual trial where evidence can be presented), then Trump has hours of time to present the real evidence - not only of ANTIFA/BLM planning the violence in advance but also of the reason for the rally - the obvious and rampant election fraud. Assuming the impeachment will be televised, this allows Trump's team to provide this evidence to the masses and largely bypass the censorship of the media/social media.
Everyone is playing with fire here. If Demoncrats think they can shove this through without a real trial, they also think they are now untouchable. If they allow the evidence against them to be shown to the world during a sham impeachment, they risk total exposure and their own removal from power.
With the weak-ass efforts thus far of getting a fair hearing of the election fraud, one would think at some point, there would be an actual serious presentation of the evidence - - especially against Dominion, as I suspect there are quite a few Senate and House elections that would be invalidated if the true depth of the Dominion fraud through the years was exposed.
So, if the Senate goes ahead with a sham trial, I say this would be the time when Trump's team pulls out the big guns and blows them away with the evidence (which again, has been largely withheld and not effectively presented to this point).
