Personally, I find opponents more reliable than allies. An ally can fail to hold up his or her end of the bargain I was relying on. Opponents, however, never fail to do what is in their interest to win.
And that is why they are far better to have than friends.
Opponents are reliable in a way friends never will be.
Learn to not try and stop your opponents from winning, but to turn their win into yours, as well. If you need to destroy someone - match them up with someone who will destroy them.
