2013 Lac-Megantic Rail Disaster: 47 Killed in Crude Oil Train Derailment
At 1:15 am on July 6th 2013 a train carrying crude oil tanks ran away, accelerated and derailed in the downtown core of Lac-Megantic, a city about 200 km east of Montreal in Quebec, Canada. In total, 47 people lost their lives after the cars completely destroyed the bar where they were partying, along with 30 other buildings, making it the second worst train disaster in Canadian history after the June 29th 1864 St-Hilaire train disaster which killed 99 person.
