More than that, why would you have an entire company facing away IN FORMATION when only the first one in each row can actually scan for threats?

I confess that I have never "worn the uniform" so I'm highly unqualified to render a judgment as to what I saw. But, while some troops were facing away, others were facing toward the motorcade and NONE of them were saluting. For the sake of uniformity, it should have been all one way ... either facing away with an officer saluting for the group or all facing, with each soldier saluting or (less likely) an officer saluting on their behalf.
