Watch: Timelapse footage shows the first step of Scott Base's redevelopment in Antarctica completed with building of new weather station.
The first step of a $250 million redevelopment of New Zealand’s Scott Base Antarctic research facility has been completed with the building of a new weather station.
The new station will ensure the continuation of the longest-running data set of the southern continent’s weather.
A time-lapse video shows the conditions two Cantabrians had to work through in order to get the station completed before the end of last year.
The station sits 135m from the existing one, which has been operating since 1957. The data set was established by Bew Zealand explorer Sir Edmund Hillary.
