The Dems. have their infiltrators on the Right. We call them RINOs. I'm sure that the Right has infiltrators on the Left. Oddly, I have always suspected that Bernie is one, and possibly AOC because they are so outlandish.
I was wondering the same thing. My guess is that he had to play Devil's advocate. If he didn't push the vaccines, then the MSM would have crucified him over that. So he was forced to take a stance. So he pushed the idea that the vaccines would be a good thing so that the MSM would have to take the opposite stance and expose big pharma.
The MSM always tried to put Trump between a rock and a hard place so that they could criticize him no matter what he did.
