CALIFORNIA - The state is revamping it's vaccine delivery system to give the state more control over who gets a dose. Tuesday the state's health agency said third-party administers now be in charge of ordering and distributing vaccine doses.
The vaccine distribution and operations effort will be led by Yolanda Richardson, Secretary of the Government Operations Agency, in partnership with Dr. Mark Ghaly who is Secretary of Health and Human Services, and the California Department of Public Health. The goal is to build a system to efficiently administer vaccines when the supply increases. The state's decision comes after criticism for its slow and disjointed rollout.
Butte County's dashboard shows that they have only given about one-third of the vaccines its received. One woman on the waitlist tells action news now she hopes this will help. "It’d be nice to get it out faster obviously, but I don’t know what they are thinking, if they are thinking of reserving some for the second booster shots, there might be some merit in that since we don’t know how fast the manufacturing will keep up. I would love to get it as soon as possible," said Kathryn Yarosevich, who falls under the 65 and older category.
The state also just announced a new tool called "My Turn." This will let you sign up to get notified when you're eligible for the vaccine and schedule appointments. Butte County Public Health officials say it's similar to the tool they have. The state plans to roll out this new tool for all Californians in just a few weeks. As of right now, BCPH officials say the vaccine rollout plans remain the same and the changes haven't gone into effect yet.
While the state will drive faster administration of available vaccine supply, overall vaccine supply into California will continue to be dictated by the Federal government.

Governor Newsom Appoints Government Operations Agency, Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency, and Veterans Affairs Secretaries

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the appointment of Yolanda Richardson as secretary of the Government Operations Agency and Lourdes M. Castro RamĂrez as secretary of the Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency, and announced the reappointment of Vito Imbasciani as secretary of the California Department of Veterans Affairs.
Yolanda Richardson, 49, of Roseville, has been appointed secretary of the Government Operations Agency. Richardson has been president at Teloiv Consulting since 2016. She was chief deputy executive director at Covered California from 2011 to 2016. Richardson was chief operating officer at Cal eConnect from 2009 to 2011 and at San Francisco Health Plan from 2007 to 2009. Richardson held several positions at Pac Advantage from 2003 to 2007, including vice president of operations, director of operations and training officer. She is a member of the Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $217,292. Richardson is a Democrat.
