curious… there have always been those in the church who wanted reformation. Some actually accomplished it from within like St. Francis.
Some were crazy like the gnostics in france who believed creation was evil and only the spirit was good. Some of that belief still exists today in both the Catholic and Protestant churches.
Then there were kings who tried to subdue the Papacy for their own means. I believe this was actually accomplished in France, when the Papacy was in Avignon instead of Rome for several generations.
But I have not heard of any reformers who inspired the future reformation… IE Luther. Can you give me a link?
