This is probably a good time to start a new political party in order to nail down the coffin lid on the Democratic party. I don't expect that ONE GROUP will come up with the right platform for a credible alternative, but if half a dozen groups make an attempt, and negotiate with each other to get enough support to be credible, then the next election could see the Democrats relegated to 3rd place.
Also, with 3 or 4 parties fielding candidates, the presidential debate format could be changed, even experimented with, to get away from the whole adversarial model which has failed.
The two party system comes from Marxism. The Soviet used this inside the Communist party to decide policies. But the two party adversarial system does not provide enough room for the people to participate.
How about a debate with 4 candidates, where each one gets 25% of the time, to ask questions and the panel of the other 3 answers them? Or where each candidate gets 10 minutes uninterrupted to make their position, and then the rest of the time, the other 3 get to ask questions about it with a 1 minute speaking limit on each turn. Then there would be 4 programs to give each candidate a chance to lead the discussion with the 10min speech
