In reversal, WHO says pregnant women can get COVID-19 vaccine

Agency says no reason to believe there are risks that would outweigh the benefits of vaccination for pregnant women; Israel already recommends inoculation in 2nd, 3rd trimesters

Reversing previous guidance, the World Health Organization on Friday said that pregnant women can be vaccinated against COVID-19.

“While pregnancy puts women at higher risk of severe COVID-19, very little data are available to assess vaccine safety in pregnancy,” the agency said.

“Nevertheless, based on what we know about this kind of vaccine, we don’t have any specific reason to believe there will be specific risks that would outweigh the benefits of vaccination for pregnant women,” the international body said.

“People who are pregnant and part of a group recommended to receive the COVID-19 vaccine may choose to be vaccinated,” the agency said in a statement.

Nationwide anti-Netanyahu protests underway for 32nd consecutive week

Protesters in Tel Aviv scattered notes displaying numbers throughout Habima Square, meant to symbolize the people who have so far succumbed to COVID-19.

Protesters calling on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign gathered on bridges and junctions across the country on Saturday afternoon for the 32nd consecutive week, with a march to Balfour street taking place in Jerusalem, an art exhibition dedicated to the Israeli victims of COVID-19 in Tel Aviv, and a protest attended by hundreds near Netanyahu's residence in Herzliya.

In Jerusalem, protests will be organized by the Crime Minister and Kumi Israel (which translates to "Rise Israel") Movements. A march left the String Bridge at 6:30 p.m. and made its way toward the Prime Minister's Official Residence on Balfour street, demanding that an inquiry committee be established to investigate the government's conduct during the coronavirus pandemic, and protesting the decision to archive coronavirus cabinet protocols for 30 years.

So Much For Unity: Biden Will Move Ahead With Pandemic Relief Without GOP

Joe Biden made a big push for “unity” during his inaugural address, but he is finding it a little harder to achieve than he thought. Of course, he hasn’t really tried anything “unifying,” so that may be one reason Republicans are balking at his proposed $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill.

“I support passing COVID relief with support from Republicans if we can get it,” he told reporters. “But the COVID relief has to pass. No ifs, ands or buts.”

This almost certainly means that Democrats will use the reconciliation process to get the bill passed.

His message so far has been that a fresh $1.9 trillion in aid would be a bargain compared to the potential damage to the world’s largest economy if it doesn’t pass. An aggressive push for vaccinations and generous aid to individuals would help put parents back to work and let children return to school and improve their lifetime earnings, Biden said at a Friday meeting with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. They met in the Oval Office, where the fireplace was lit to protect against the chill in Washington.

“We have learned from past crises that the risk is not doing too much,” he said. “The risk is not doing enough.”

Congress has already approved $4 trillion in pandemic assistance. In fact, there’s still money left to spend from the CARES Act passed by Congress last spring — $300 billion as of last September. The $900 billion aid bill Congress passed at Christmas has barely had a chance to have any effect at all.

Many Republicans are making the argument that it’s impossible to gauge how much money is needed if previous monies haven’t even been spent. While there are some obvious needs for individuals who are unemployed, for vaccine distribution, and for more small business loans, $1.9 trillion may be unnecessary.

The risk Biden speaks of isn’t doing too much or too little. It’s doing too dumb.

Some Biden allies have expressed frustration that the administration has not more clearly defined what the massive legislation would actually accomplish. The new president instead has largely focused his first nine days in office on signing executive orders rolling back his predecessor’s policies.

In particular, Biden, for whom the widespread distribution of coronavirus vaccines will be a defining test, has not explained what the increased money for testing and vaccination would achieve — including how much quicker the White House believes it would help bring about an end to the pandemic.

Congress isn’t supposed to work like that — even in a public health emergency. The awful truth is, Biden doesn’t know himself what the money will be spent on and he is asking Republicans to take a shot in the dark. He’s asking Republicans to trust him.

That’s not going to happen. Republicans are pointing out the non-COVID-related items in the bill, including the $15 minimum wage. To claim that the situation is so bad Congress has to pass a bill without knowing what’s in it while sticking non-emergency provisions in the legislation will not gain Biden much trust.

The Democrats’ effort to maintain a crisis atmosphere in the country is failing. Autocratic blue state governors are under enormous pressure to reopen their states for business and even Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York has relented some and will allow restaurants to open for in-house dining. Chicago may actually start in-person instruction in schools next week. The crisis is ending and Biden’s attempt to justify “crisis” spending is falling flat with Republicans.

Farewell, unity! It was nice while it lasted.

Biden Administration Halts Arms Deals Over Yemen… What’s Really Going On?

The bigger concern of Biden and Blinken seems to be damage limitation to America’s bloody image, and also doing a big favor for Israel.

Antony Blinken, the newly-appointed US top diplomat, has announced a pause in arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates out of apparent concern over American weapons being used in prosecuting the horrendous war in Yemen.

Blinken was confirmed by the Senate for the post of Secretary of State this week. One of his first moves in taking up the post has been to call a halt to arms deals with Saudi Arabia and the UAE which the previous Trump administration had cut.

There’s been growing bipartisan concern in the US Congress that American weaponry has been deployed by the Saudis and Emiratis in their war on Yemen. Trump ignored all appeals to halt arms sales.

That war has resulted in the world’s worst current humanitarian crisis with millions of Yemenis facing starvation amid mounting evidence of atrocities against civilians from Saudi and Emirati air strikes.

The US, along with Britain and France, are implicated in the horror because these countries have supplied warplanes and missiles to the Arab coalition attacking Yemen.

The move by the new administration of President Joe Biden to suspend arms supplies to Saudis and the Emiratis is to be welcomed. But there is nothing to commend here. It is long overdue.

During Senate hearings last week, Antony Blinken vowed to restore America’s international image, which has been tarnished by former President Donald Trump and his bumptious Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The new administration will endeavor to burnish America’s presumed (and grossly overrated) image as a beacon for human rights and rule of law, and lead by the “power of example”.

It’s therefore plausible that Biden and Blinken are motivated not so much by the suffering of Yemen’s people, but rather more by the urgent need to rehabilitate Washington’s reputation.

The involvement of American military in Yemen is completely beyond the pale. There is no credible justification for supplying weapons to enable this genocidal slaughter. Citing allegations of Iranian proxy support for Houthi rebels is as contemptible as it is lacking in credibility. Those allegations have always been a cynical pretext for launching a war of aggression on Yemen, the poorest country in the Arab region, but strategically situated straddling the Red Sea and Indian Ocean.

So stopping the flow of American weapons to the belligerent Saudi and Emirati regimes is hardly a difficult, moral decision. It’s the very least Washington should do to get this horror to stop.

There are other reasons why the Biden administration’s decision on arms transfers over Yemen are hardly commendable.

Munity At Large SDF Jail Hosting Foreign ISIS Terrorists

On January 30, prisoners started a munity at a large jail run by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the town of al-Shaddadi in southern al-Hasakah.

The jail, which is known as Cam al-Bulgar, is located east of al-Shaddadi. The jail hosts at last 5,000 inmates, many of which are foreign ISIS terrorists.

A spokesman for the Syrian Tribes and Clans Council, Sheikh Mudar al-Asaad, told the pro-opposition news outlet Enab Baladi that the prisoners started the mutiny in response to the jail’s poor living conditions, including the lack of heating and a shortage in food and water.

“Prisoners feel resentful because of the long years of detention without courts, and because some of them were kept in prison despite being acquittal,” the Sheikh said.

Al-Assad went on to claim that some of the prisoners were recently executed by the SDF. The US-backed group claims that it has abolished the capital punishment.

Currently, the SDF security forces, Asayish, are working to end the mutiny in Cam al-Bulgar with support from the US-led coalition. Attack helicopters of the coalition have been spotted flying over the jail.

The US-led coalition maintains a base south of al-Shaddadi, a few kilometers to the west of Cam al-Bulgar jail. Several attack helicopters are deployed there.

The mutiny will likely end within a few hours. However, it will not be the last one. The failure of the SDF judiciary system is deemed to produce more troubles. In spite of this, the US continues to support the system.

One does not have to read much between the lines to see that these Peruvian judges get it. The plandemic is nothing more than a scam that was hatched by the worst kinds of criminals this world has ever seen; those with lots of money and a penchant for genocide.

Four men charged over rape of two teenage girls in Brisbane

Up to 10 men may have been involved in the alleged gang rape of two teenage girls over Christmas in a Brisbane park.

Four men have been charged following the alleged rape of two teenage girls in a Brisbane park. There are concerns 10 men in total could have been involved in the horrific attack.

Police allege the rapes took place in Calamvale, in the city’s south, on 28 December and the teens may have been drugged.

The Courier Mail reported the two 15-year-old girls met up with two of the men at a railway station with the intention to drink and smoke cannabis. They then travelled to Karawatha quarry where another eight men are alleged to have turned up.

Police have alleged the two girls were then repeatedly sexually assaulted at Calamvale District Park.

“Those acts of rape I understand occurred at a park in Calamvale after the two children had asked to be taken home,” Police prosecutor Peri Cardiff told the newspaper.

A 19 year-old, man from Woodbridge, just to the east of Calamvale, and a 20-year-old man from Hillcrest, also close by, were charged yesterday with 40 offences each including rape, indecent treatment of a child under 16, stupefying in order to commit indictable offence, taking child for immoral purposes and assault with intent to commit rape.

Both men appeared at Brisbane Magistrates Court today with the 19-year-old remanded in custody until February 1 and the 20-year-old remanded until February 22.

A further two men aged 22 and 21 from Acacia Ridge and Runcorn, in Brisbane’s southern suburbs, have also been charged with 40 offences each and are due to appear in Richlands Magistrates Court on February 1.

Spotify Wins Patent to Snoop on User’s Voice to Gauge ‘Emotional State’

Music streaming service Spotify has won a patent that will enable it to snoop on users’ speech and “background noise” in order to choose songs that best suit the listener’s “emotional state.”

Yes, really.

“Spotify has received a patent that will allow it to use speech recognition and sound analysis to assess a user’s demographic attributes, determine their emotional state, and even glean insight into their location,” reports RT. “The information will be used – hypothetically, at least – to pick the perfect song to play without requiring any conscious data input from the listener.”

Spotify applied for the patent back in February 2018 but it was quietly approved earlier this month.

In addition to demographic information, the technology will also scan for “intonation, stress, rhythm and the likes of units of speech” to determine the user’s mood. It will also be able to pick up ambient background noise in order to determine whether the user it at a party, using public transport or on a rural walk.

The technology will utilize the user’s emotional response to tweak its algorithm and perform better suited song suggestions in pursuit of a “positive metadata/emotional state.”

Spotify secured another patent back in October called “methods and systems for personalizing user experience based on [user] personality traits,” while also publishing a paper in July that detailed its plans “to link streaming behavior with brain scanning, genetic, and physiological data.”

The use of in-built microphones of cellphones to spy on users is by no means a brand new technology.

Android and Apple users are routinely asked to give permission to apps enabling them to access cellphone mics.

Morocco accused of blackmailing critics with revenge porn

Moroccan authorities have been accused of silencing critics of King Mohammed VI's court, with reports that in some cases the government has resorted to using revenge porn.

According to an article in The Economist, it has been revealed that one such critic Fouad Abdelmoumni claimed that authorities gained recordings of him sleeping with his partner before sending clips to his relatives' phones.

Mr Abdelmoumni said that dozens of dissidents ranging from liberals to Islamists have faced similar smear campaigns. The kingdom has tried and imprisoned three prominent journalists since 2019 for sexual offences including rape. State-affiliated media has, in turn, sought to frame these convictions with the country's own #MeToo movement.

Shares of some of the heavily shorted stocks that had become popular picks among members of Reddit’s r/wallstreetbets forum surged anew after sliding on Thursday. GameStop (GME) shares rocketed higher by about 70% on Friday after nearly halving on Thursday. The stock closed at $65.01 per share a week ago, but by Friday’s close, was higher by more than 400% to $328.24 per share. Shares of AMC (AMC) also soared Friday after plunging on Thursday, as did shares of BlackBerry (BB), Express (EXPR), Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY) and Nokia (NOK).

Over the course of this week, trading in these and other heavily shorted names generated historic trading volumes in equity markets, surpassing even the volume of trades taking place at the most volatile points of the pandemic in 2020. More than 23.6 billion shares of U.S.-traded stocks were exchanged on Wednesday this week, according to Bloomberg data, marking the most ever in records spanning back more than a decade.

FLASHBACK: Robinhood Was Fined $65 Million For Misleading Its Users In December

Robinhood was fined $65 million last month for misleading its users about how the company makes money.

Only one month prior to the meteoric rise of GameStop, AMC, and other “meme stocks”, the trading platform Robinhood received a $65 million fine from the SEC after the government agency determined that the trading platform mislead its users from 2015-2018 regarding how the platform makes money.

Per the SEC on December 17, 2020, “between 2015 and late 2018, Robinhood made misleading statements and omissions in customer communications, including in FAQ pages on its website, about its largest revenue source when describing how it made money – namely, payments from trading firms in exchange for Robinhood sending its customer orders to those firms for execution, also known as ‘payment for order flow.'”

In short, this means Robinhood did not give its users the best price for the stock purchases they made, and did not disclose this to the users.

“As the SEC’s order finds, one of Robinhood’s selling points to customers was that trading was ‘commission free,’ but due in large part to its unusually high payment for order flow rates, Robinhood customers’ orders were executed at prices that were inferior to other brokers’ prices,” the SEC explained. “Despite this, according to the SEC’s order, Robinhood falsely claimed in a website FAQ between October 2018 and June 2019 that its execution quality matched or beat that of its competitors.”

Shockingly, the SEC believes that Robinhood “provided inferior trade prices that in aggregate deprived customers of $34.1 million”

CBS News notes that Robinhood has used a series of “game” tactics to attempt to persuade young retail investors to use its platform, essentially treating the stock market like a video game.

One example from the suit: To further coax customers on its platform into trading, Robinhood rewards users “with colorful confetti raining down their screens after executing trades,” according to court documents. These and other tactics are Robinhood’s way of turning serious investing into a “game,” Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin said in a statement. The alleged tactic is “not only unethical, but also falls far short of the standards we require in Massachusetts,” he said.

Robinhood said it disagrees with what Massachusetts alleged and intends to fight state officials in court.

Report: Biden administration can't account for as many as 20 million vaccine doses that were sent to states

According to a report from Politico, the Biden administration is struggling mightily to deliver on its promise to get a handle on the COVID-19 pandemic, and may have even lost track of as many as 20 million vaccine doses that were sent to the states.

The report notes that Biden officials are learning that a seamless, perfect pandemic response is easier to promise than deliver, and notes that the administration has largely jettisoned its ballyhooed coronavirus response plan as they discover that the challenges they face in getting the pandemic under control may have been more serious than they anticipated.

One administration official was even quoted as saying, "It's the Mike Tyson quote: 'Everybody's got a plan until they get punched in the mouth.'"

The report also indicates that the Biden administration cannot locate about 20 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine that have been sent to the states, and is concerned that "the crucial supply is boxed away in warehouses, sitting idle in freezers or floating elsewhere in the complex distribution pipeline that runs from the administration to individual states."

Biden administration officials blamed this problem on the Trump administration, which they claim was not tracking what happened to the vaccines after they were sent to the states.

The report also notes that administration officials have discovered that the available stockpile of vaccine is "mostly empty," and that they are struggling to find ways to boost production in order to even meet the administration's initial goal of 100 million vaccination doses in the first 100 days, which was widely criticized as being too modest and not even an improvement on the rate of vaccine delivery during the final days of the Trump administration.

The shortage of vaccine supply is said to have caught the Biden administration by surprise, and according to the Politico report, the shortage may not be alleviated even by as late as this summer, meaning that the administration's plans to help America return to normal activity may be much more stymied than previously anticipated.

Letter Mentioning Iranian General Soleimani, Scientist Fakhrizadeh Found Near Israeli Embassy In Delhi After Recent Blast

A letter mentioning Iranian General Qasem Soleimani and nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was found at the site of the recent bombing near the Israeli embassy in New Delhi, the India Today reported on January 30.

The small explosion took place a day earlier a few meters away from the Israeli embassy. No casualties were reported. However, three cars were damaged.

According to India Today, the letter is one and a half-page long and has been written in a haphazard manner. The letter refers to Soleimani and Fakhrizadeh as “martyrs” and says the attack was only a “trailer.”

Soleimani was killed in a US strike on the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on January 3 of 2020. Fakhrizadeh was assassinated, reportedly by the Israeli intelligence, on November 27 of the same year.

Indian media said that a mysterious group calling itself “Jaish-Ul-Hind” [the Army of India] had claimed responsibility for the explosion.

“By the grace and help of Almighty Allah, soldiers of Jaish-Ul-Hind were able to infiltrate a high security area in Delhi and carry out an IED attack,” the group said in a statement shared on Telegram. “This, Allah willing, is beginning of a series of attacks which would target major Indian cities and pay back in kind to the atrocities committed by the Indian state. Wait and we are waiting too.”

India Today said that investigators had refused to rely on this particular claim till they gather any evidence of “Jaish-Ul-Hind” being responsible for the blast.

Indian authorities are currently investigating the blast. The Delhi Police Special Cell has questioned several individuals, including several Iranian nationals.

There is still no evidence linking Iran to the blast near the Israeli embassy in New Delhi. However, this does not rule out the possibility that the blast was a message from Tehran to Tel Aviv.
