Aung San Suu Kyi and other senior members of Myanmar’s ruling party have been detained by the military after several days of rising tensions over the results of a recent election, raising fears of a coup in the south-east Asian country.

Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s 75-year-old state counsellor, President Win Myint and other members of the National League of Democracy were arrested at their residences in the capital Naypyidaw early on Monday, according to reports on BBC’s Burmese service and Reuters.

Sean Turnell, an Australian academic who serves as an adviser to Aung San Suu Kyi, confirmed the reports, and said that internet and phone service in the capital were down.

“All the people in Naypyidaw have been cut off, so it looks like the reports about Aung San Suu Kyi and the president being detained appear to be true,” he told the Financial Times from Yangon. “There has been no statement from the military yet.”

Last week, the embassies of several European countries and the US in Myanmar issued a statement saying they opposed any effort by the military to overturn the election result.

On Saturday, the military appeared to step away from the coup threat by saying it would abide by, and protect, the constitution.

Myanmar was ruled by the military from 1962 to 2011, when the country began its transition to democracy under a constitution that reserved three important ministries and 25 per cent of parliament for army appointees. The NLD took power in 2016 in a civilian government headed by Aung San Suu Kyi.

Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s president and other senior ruling party figures have been detained by the military in early morning raids, a party spokesman said on Monday.

Spokesman Myo Nyunt told Reuters that Suu Kyi, President Win Myint and other leaders had been “taken” early in the morning. “I want to tell our people not to respond rashly and I want them to act according to the law,” he said, adding he also expected to be detained.

“We have to assume that the military is staging a coup,” a party spokesman said.

An NLD lawmaker, who asked not to be named for fear of retaliation, said another of those detained was Han Thar Myint, a member of the party’s central executive committee.

Phone lines to Naypyitaw, the capital, were not reachable in the early hours of Monday. The BBC reported that soldiers were on the street in Yangon and Naypyitaw. A military spokesman did not answer phone calls seeking comment.

On Monday morning, Myanmar state TV said on Facebook it was unable to broadcast.

The raids come after the country’s powerful military raised the spectre of staging a coup as it ramped up demands for an investigation into alleged voter fraud during last year’s election, which was swept by Aung San Suu Kyi’s ruling party.

The raids took place just hours before parliament was due to begin its first session after the November election.

The National League for Democracy (NLD) won November’s poll in a landslide, but has been much criticised by rights groups for its disenfranchisement of voters in conflict-wracked regions.

The military-aligned opposition disputed the results, while the army has for weeks alleged widespread voter irregularities, claiming to have found 8.6m cases of fraud.

Sec. Clinton meets Aung San Suu Kyi in Burma

–DECEMBER 1, 2011== / 7:45 PM / AP

YANGON, Myanmar - Hillary Rodham Clinton dined Thursday with former political prisoner Aung San Suu Kyi, forcefully underscoring a U.S. challenge to Myanmar's leaders on her historic visit: The new civilian government must expand recent reforms, including the release of political prisoners, to improve relations as it emerges from more than a half-century of repressive military rule.

"We believe that any political prisoner anywhere should be released," the U.S. secretary of state told reporters. "One political prisoner is one too many in our view."

Clinton called Suu Kyi a personal inspiration, and her first meeting with the Nobel peace laureate was a highlight of her visit to the long-isolated country also known as Burma. Suu Kyi, a prisoner for most of the past two decades, was released from house arrest last year and is returning to politics.

The two women were to see each other again on Friday.

The raids came hours before a new session of parliament was scheduled to open and members who won the November elections were set to take their seats. Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy won those elections in a landslide, capturing 396 out of 476 seats. It was the Myanmar’s second democratic election since the country’s fragile transition from military rule to democracy.

NLD spokesman Myo Nyunt told The Washington Post that Suu Kyi, Myanmar president Win Myint and all chief ministers from their party, representing over a dozen states and regions in the country, were taken at gunpoint.A spokesman for his party was also detained, he said.

they arrested them all at one time…is it coming here?

Trump names two new lawyers for impeachment trial a day after his defense team collapsed

Former President Donald Trump's office announced thatDavid Schoen and Bruce L. Castor, Jr. will now head the legal team for his second impeachment trial, a day after CNN first reported that five members of his defense left and his team effectively collapsed.

One point of friction with his previous team was Trump wanted the attorneys to focus on his election fraud claims rather than the constitutionality of convicting a former president.

Why do D’s want to control the black pop?

Why do they intentionally keep poor and in need?

Why do D’s project racism on a daily basis against R’s?

Why do black elected officials do the crazy talk on behalf of D’s?

How do D’s cover the historical facts of forming the confederacy, KKK, and oppose all things pro black re: legislation?

What happens if D’s lose the slave grip on the black pop?

Why do D’s, through the funding of the CIA, prop up and install Hollywood/media assets?

Does this fall within Operation Mockingbird?

What were the historical advantages D’s gained by having MSM and famous people peddling narrative?

Who exposed the pedo network within H wood?

You can’t answer the above but will laugh once disclose details.

The network which controls this false narrative which in turns keeps the black pop under control is being dismantled.

False local and national black leaders will be exposed next as shills for the D party.

Follow the money.

Maxine W has a $4mm home and cash assets in excess of $6mm.

How is that possible? One example.

All of these questions help to paint the full picture.
