John – I know you are buried with the campaign so I apologize for bugging you with something totally unrelated.

Briefly, ACYPL is one of several international exchange organizations involved inPresident Obama’s Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) through a grant from the State Department to design and manage the Legislative Process and Governance Professional Fellows Program. We bring young political and policy leaders from across the ASEAN region to the US for month long professional internships related to their work in their home countries.

Our 2016 spring program will includeAung San Suu Kyi’s amazing young deputy chief of staff Arkar Myo Htet. (I was recently in Myanmar and personally conducted Arkar’s interview – he is super smart, focused, funny and has excellent English.) Given the task before him as The Lady takes over the leadership of Myanmar, I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity for him to spend his American fellowship in the White House Chief of Staff’s office. And given President Obama’s deep involvement with and interest in Myanmar’s political transitionas well as his friendship with Aung San Suu Kyi, I thought they might be interested in hosting one of her key young staff.

With this in mind, I would like to reach out to Denis McDonough or an assistant to him with an intern request, and am hoping you might share his contact information.

Thanks for your attention and consideration…and, most importantly, I’m super glad you are an integral player in what seems to be a fight to maintain the sanity of our country.

Cheers, Linda

P.S. President Obama met with our past YSEALI fellows in June and November 2015. Here is a link to our amazing fellow Htoo Kyaw Win sharing a bit about his experience with the President☺
