They are under no obligation under Church law nor international law to disclose the size or make up of their finances.
There's certainly a lot of gold and silver, paid to the Vatican over the milenia, as well as papal cuts of Jesuit South America PM's. The cut was too small and the Jesuits got disbanded for their real but unofficial empire across the continent. It's fascinating history, I recommend digs into such.
Also property owned by the Vatican as deeds. That's just the hard Bank stuff. I'm not exagerating when I say, only God knows all the stuff stashed in the catacombs and vaults under ground.
This has always made me sceptical of the claims of Rothschild loans and owning the Vatican. The Vatican could easily collateralize a loan based on a short term liquidity issue. And the French, Spanish, and Italian crowns would have tripped over themselves to help the Vatican as Papal favor was highjly valued until the 19th century.
Anyhoo, my two cents
