Police rule out criminal misconduct after investigation into Vatican payments to Australia
The Australian Federal Police says it has finished its investigation into payments made from the Vatican to Australia and has not found any criminal misconduct.

AUSTRAC, which investigates criminal abuse in financial systems in Australia, had earlier reported $2.3 billion had been transferred to Australia from the Vatican between 2014 and 2020.
It also said there had been 47,000 individual transfers of money.
Those figures were contested at the time by the Vatican, which said it sounded like "science fiction" because the Holy's Sees annual budget was about 330 million euros.
Last month, those transfer figures were drastically reduced in a joint Vatican-Australia review, which found only $9.5 million had been sent from the Vatican to Australia between 2014 and 2020.
It found there had been 362 transfers of money, which the Vatican said was mainly to meet "contractual obligations" as well as "ordinary management".
After the transfer figures had been revised down, Cardinal George Pell, who had been the Vatican's treasurer, told Reuters: "I was relieved to hear that billions were not laundered through the Vatican while I was head of the Secretariat for the Economy."
