You do realize you do not have to run the refrigeration unit on those trucks. They shut off. If a trucker is in the area with a trailer at the right price they get the load.
Reefers can take most any load. Dry vans (unrefrigerated) cannot haul perishable products. So if Im buying a trailer, I buy the reefer to maximize the loads I can take.
The fact it's on a reefer could be completely irrelevant. Or hell, it could be human brains if you like that possibility better.

I know full well they exist. Ive been in many of them. Ive also been in hundreds of refrigerated semis. The picture is of a semi trailer.
