Army air defenses repel Israeli missile aggression on southern region

Damascus, SANA-Army air defenses repel Israeli missile aggression on southern region

Airstrikes are frequent in Syria, for which the nation blames Israel. Israel has admitted conducting operations under the pretext of combating the suspected military activity of Iran in the neighboring region. Usually, the Jewish state says that its strikes are in retaliation for rocket attacks on Israel from Syria.

Israel has conducted a missile attack on Wednesday night targeting the southern part of Syria, which was repelled by the country's air defense, the Syrian state-affiliated SANA news agency reported.

According to SANA, the province of Quneitra in southern Syria was attacked by Israel. As shown on a video shared on Twitter, a projectile that appears to be a rocket is seen exploding in the night air.

As reported by the local media, the Israel Defense Forces used fighter jets to conduct the airstrikes, and explosions were heard near Damascus International Airport.

US 'freezing' Trump plan to withdraw 12,000 troops from Germany while Pentagon reviews policy – general

The US will halt its planned withdrawal of 12,000 troops from Germany while the Pentagon conducts a review of the Trump-era plans, the head of the US European Command said on Wednesday.

The plans have been "put on freeze" while new US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, is "in the process of conducting a very thorough review" of the policy, Air Force General Tod Wolters told reporters, without giving a timeframe for the audit.

The planned drawdown included relocating the US European Command from the city of Stuttgart to Belgium and returning the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, currently based in the German town of Vilseck, to the US.

Only 6,000 of the troops scheduled to leave Germany were set to return to the US, with some also intended for deployment to the Baltic region.

"Every single one of them are on hold, and will be reexamined [so as] to have a comprehensive look at all the options, from A to Z, so you can take a strategic examination on every one of those options," Wolter added.

Then-president Donald Trump ordered the removal of some of the 34,000 US troops posted in Germany, accusing the fellow NATO member of being "very delinquent" and "making a fortune" off American soldiers.

Wolters and Trump's Defense Secretary at the time, Mark Esper, have both previously said taking US troops from Germany and posting them elsewhere would increase security in Europe.

However, a bipartisan group of American lawmakers questioned how the move would allow the US and NATO to keep up their pressure on Russia over Crimea.

The troop-change plans angered officials in Germany when they were announced last summer, including Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Soeder, who said: "We very much regret the US government's decision."

Defense Secretary Austin has reportedly assured his German counterpart, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, that the US will liaise with Germany over similar moves in the future, according to Reuters.

DEBUNKED: AOC Wasn’t Hiding In The Capitol On Jan 6, ‘Insurrectionists’ Who ‘Tried To Kill’ Her Never Entered Her Building

Supporters of AOC have claimed that she was terrorized inside the Capitol by far-right "insurrectionists." Those claims have been emphatically debunked.

The histrionics of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who claimed she feared for her life and hid in a bathroom from pro-Trump insurrectionists during Capitol protests that invoked her past “trauma” as a “sexual assault survivor,” suffered a serious credibility blow Wednesday after it was revealed that Ocasio-Cortez was reportedly safely ensconced in the Cannon Building and Longworth House Office Building during the protests. Neither building was breached by protesters on Jan. 6.

Earlier this week, Ocasio-Cortez took to Instagram live to recount lurid tales of the terrors she endured both in her office and the office of fellow Rep. Katie Porter in the nearby Longworth House Office Building, during which she was sure an “insurrectionist” would storm the halls with a firearm and she would die.

Unfortunately for Ocasio-Cortez, it was revealed Wednesday that she was not even inside the Capitol, but the Cannon building, where her office is located. Her attempts to explain away this key omission only made a further subject of mockery on social media.

Fellow Rep. Nancy Mace debunked claims which proliferated on social media this week that insurrectionists stormed Ocasio-Cortez’s office.

.@AOC made clear she didn’t know who was at her door. Breathless attempts by media to fan fictitious news flames are dangerous.

Ocasio-Cortez, who frequently receives massive positive engagement on Twitter, was ultimately ratioed on her tweet trying to explain away her account of the Jan. 6 protests.

She was also roundly mocked for her attempts to stoke fear about pro-Trump protests after enthusiastically endorsing Black Lives Matter riots during the summer of 2020.

Meet The Hedge Fund That Made A Killing On The Reddit-Fueled Short Squeeze

So much for "sticking it to the suits".

The unfortunate reality of Wall Street is that, sooner or later, we knew that hedge fund players would emerge who capitalized on the Reddit-fueled squeezes of the last two weeks.

One such fund was Jason Mudrick’s hedge fund. Mudrick Capital Management made almost $200 million, fueled by stakes in names that squeezed higher during the GameStop frenzy, according to Bloomberg. His fund made 9.8% in January, one of the best months since the fund's inception. Most of its gains came from debt and equity options in AMC and volatility bets in GameStop.

The fund has $3.1 billion under management and booked most of its gains last week. It also sold about $50 million worth of out of the money call options on AMC, the report says. Back in September, AMC had "signed a commitment letter with Mudrick Capital that called for the hedge fund to buy $100 million of new secured bonds that pay 15% cash or 17% deferred interest," the report notes.

SEC To Crawl Through Social Media, Hunting For Gamestop Manipulation Fraud

Remember when Harry Markopolos warned the SEC - repeatedly - that Bernie Madoff was running a giant ponzi scheme… and the SEC did absolutely nothing, eventually leading to the biggest fund fraud in modern history, with countless investors losing billions?

Well, after the recent reddit revolution sent a handful of highly shorted stocks soaring and blew up a couple of hedge funds while making other hedge funds much richer, the SEC has decided that this time it will be proactive in cracking down on fraud and according to Bloomberg SEC investigators are now "combing social media and message board posts for signs that fraud played a role in dizzying stock swings for GameStop Corp., AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. and other companies."

According to the report, the scrutiny - which comes following news that a non-recused Janet Yellen will head a task force of financial regulators addressing the recent surge in GameStop and other stocks, as well as silver, and which will inevitably also look at Citadel which paid Janet Yellen 810,000 in non-conflict of interest dollars for a handful of speeches last year - is being done in tandem with a review of trading data to assess whether such posts were part of a manipulative effort to drive up share prices.

The report notes that the SEC is "on the hunt for misinformation meant to improperly tilt the market" although how it can make that determination will be very interesting to watch: after all, the original Reddit post that laid out - in tremendous detail - just how the Gamestop squeeze would work, and which eventually sparked thousands of copycat articles and posts, was published back on September 8, titled "The REAL Greatest Short Burn of the Century" and is still available for anyone to read. There was absolutely nothing manipulative about it, and in fact it laid out the thesis very clearly - spark a huge short squeeze, something which countless funds, management teams and retail investors have tried to do in the past, and occasionally like in the case of Volkswagen, succeeded.

It would stand to reason that if what the redditors did was wrong, then the favorite online hangout of a select group of hedge funds should fall under the microscope too.

In Order To Have A “Tolerant Society”, The Elite Believe They Must Be Intolerant Of All Dissenting Views

When information becomes a “threat”, even thinking the wrong thing can be dangerous. Over the past several weeks, I have heard the word “misinformation” uttered in the same sentence as “terror” or “terrorists” countless times. In the old days, the “extremists” and the “terrorists” were on the other side of the globe, but now we are being told that they live among us. So how can we identify them? Well, we are being told that “the bad guys” can be identified by what they believe. Those that do not embrace the propaganda that big tech and the corporate media are relentlessly pushing are being systematically “deplatformed”, “canceled” and pushed to the fringes of society. But apparently that is not nearly enough, because the New York Times is now asking for the Biden administration to appoint a “reality czar” that will be given authority to deal with “misinformation” and “extremism”.

So exactly what will be done to those that are guilty of committing “thought crimes” against the government?

Sadly, I think that we are eventually going to find out.

For decades, the elite have been telling us that we need to have a “tolerant” society. But now that they have almost total control, we are being told that in order to have that tolerant society they must be extremely intolerant of dissenting viewpoints.

They seem to have embraced a very radical form of the “paradox of tolerance”, and as a result our society is becoming more dystopian with each passing day.

For example, this week U.S. Representative Jackie Speier suggested that it is time to start referring to Republicans as “the terrorist right”.

That is close to half the country. Does she really want nearly half the nation to be considered “terrorists”?

Last month, I wrote about a new bill that has been introduced in Congress which is essentially the Patriot Act on steroids. But of course the Patriot Act was primarily focused on terror threats from overseas, while even Democrats are admitting that this new bill appears to be specifically targeting Americans that do not have the correct political views. If you doubt this, just consider what Tulsi Gabbard is saying about this new bill…

This is an issue that all Democrats, Republicans, independents, Libertarians should be extremely concerned about, especially because we don’t have to guess about where this goes or how this ends. What characteristics are we looking for as we are building this profile of a potential extremist, what are we talking about? Religious extremists, are we talking about Christians, evangelical Christians, what is a religious extremist? Is it somebody who is pro-life?

In the end, they don’t have to put millions of people in prison to chill free speech in America.

All they have to do is set a few examples and most others will willingly fall in line.

It is all about behavioral conditioning. They want to shape what we do, what we say and what we think by creating fear.

As Grace-Anne Kelly has aptly pointed out, this is something that they are doing to our children as well.

This is a very dark time in our history, and it appears that things will never be quite the same ever again.

Sen. Tom Cotton Releases DREAM Act Analysis: Work Permits for Millions of Illegal Aliens, ‘Ignores Criminal Records’

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) will on Wednesday release a detailed analysis of the DREAM Act, showing that the leftist policy would undermine American workers’ economic opportunities and the safety of American families.

The document, which Breitbart News has obtained exclusively, reveals the push for a DREAM Act would grant upwards of 2 million illegal aliens work permits immediately and eventually full citizenship.

The document from Cotton’s office, a fact sheet exposing the detrimental impact of such a policy, opens by noting that there is a renewed push for a DREAM Act amnesty now that President Joe Biden’s broader legislative immigration plan is failing. Biden introduced a mass-scale amnesty for every illegal alien in America on the first day of his administration, but the measure has received serious blowback from Republicans who are unlikely to embrace that broad package. To overcome a Senate filibuster, Democrats would need to woo at least 10 Senate Republicans to join their ranks on amnesty — and recent reports indicate there is not a single GOP senator willing to get on board with that.

As such, the Democrats and some establishment Republicans have begun shifting the focus not just to executive actions the Biden administration can take — from the White House and from newly-confirmed Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas — but also to slimmer more focused immigration legislation like a DREAM Act amnesty.

The document is the first and most significant pushback from Republicans on the Biden amnesty plan in any respect from members on Capitol Hill. Some GOP members have given press comments and interviews, or have been working with their various colleagues and outside groups and allies to craft strategies to fight amnesty. But this next step is a serious factual deconstruction of the open borders agenda’s biggest wishlist item. It’s also a sign that while the right has been recovering from post-election shock and a variety of crises as the Biden Administration takes over, Republicans are gearing up for a fight and ready to hold the line against amnesty and open borders pushes. Expect Cotton to play a major role in leading that battle.

Joe Biden: Family Will Not Be Involved in Government or Foreign Policy Decisions

President Joe Biden promised in an interview released Wednesday that members of his family would not be involved with government or foreign policy decisions.

“No one in our family and extended family is going to be involved in any government undertaking or foreign policy,” Biden said in an interview with People magazine.

The president pointedly noted that family members did not have an office at the White House either, presumably referring to former President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner occupying offices in the West Wing during his presidency.

“Nobody has an office in this place,” he said.

Biden’s assertion was a repeat of his campaign promise to keep members of his family out of foreign business deals while he was in office.

“No one in my family will have an office in the White House, will sit in on meetings as if they are a Cabinet member, will, in fact, have any business relationship with anyone that relates to a foreign corporation or a foreign country. Period. Period. End of story,” he said in October 2019.

The White House has not responded to questions about whether Biden’s son Hunter Biden actually divested his ten percent stake in Bohai Harvest RST, an international private equity firm with ties to the Chinese government, even though he resigned from the firm.

The Daily Caller reported in January that corporation records filed with China’s National Credit Information Publicity System show that Hunter Biden may still have his ten percent stake in the company.

Antifa Caused $2.3M in Riot Damage to Federal Property in Oregon, Says U.S. Attorney

The U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon estimated the cost of repairing damage to federal buildings in Portland caused by Antifa at more than $2 million. The estimate follows months of rioting, mostly centered around the federal courthouse. This estimate does not include any damage to state, county, and/or city building, or damage to private property and businesses.

U.S. Attorney Billy J. Williams told The Oregonian that cost to repair riot damage to the Mark O. Hatfield U.S. Courthouse and four other federal government facilities will likely exceed $2 million, Fox News reported. Other damaged facilities include Portland’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building, the Edith Green-Wendall Wyatt Federal Building, the Gus J. Solomon U.S. Courthouse, and the Pioneer Courthouse.

Breitbart News provided extensive coverage throughout the summer and into January of the continuing riots and protests in the Portland area. The protests and riots were initially believed to be anti-police and anti-Trump events. However, the rioting shifted its focus to President Joe Biden following his election and even after he was sworn-in on January 20.

Antifa also attacked the Democratic Party headquarters in Portland on numerous occasions. In at least one Antifa-led protest, demonstrators carried a sign saying, “We are Ungovernable” and “We don’t want Biden – we want revenge.”

President Biden was largely silent on the Antifa attacks on the federal buildings in Portland during the campaign. Following the January 20 protests, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said, “Peaceful protests are a cornerstone of our democracy but smashing windows is not protesting and neither is looting. Actions like these are totally unacceptable.”

During the on-going riots in Portland, Antifa threw Molotov cocktails and commercial-grade fireworks embedded with nails at police and other law enforcement attempting to protect the federal buildings.

In addition to the damage described above, Antifa also attacked multiple businesses, toppled or vandalized statues, burned American flags, and attacked counterprotesters.

TikTok Implements Age Limit After Italian Girl Dies

Video-sharing social network TikTok has announced it will no longer allow anyone under 13 on its Italian platform after a 10-year-old girl died performing a “blackout challenge.” TikTok’s age verification is easy to circumvent, but a variety of other systems are being considered to solidify the system, including the use of artificial intelligence, according to Reuters.

The change was sparked by a January incident in which a girl asphyxiated to death during a TikTok challenge, prompting Italian regulators to temporarily block the service. It will resume service with its new age restriction going into effect on Feb. 9.

All Italian TikTok accounts will be disabled on that date and have to enter their age to resume service. Anyone who enters their age as under 13 will have their account deleted. The volunteered information can be falsified but TikTok will seek other ways to verify age.

TikTok has begun an ad blitz targeting parents to inform them of the new rules, and has contacted EU regulators in Ireland to ask for emergency permission to employ AI programs to detect minors. Developers are also considering adding a button to the user interface that would allow people to quickly report those they believe to be under 13.

“The [Data Protection Commission] is engaging with TikTok to review, in the context of the processing of personal data, the measures implemented by the company to ensure it has effective means of identifying child users on the platform and, more generally, the measures and protections to protect the most vulnerable of users in terms of risks arising from the processing of their personal data,” the agency told TechCrunch.

Italian authorities say they’re monitoring the situation closely to judge the effectiveness of the new measures.

THE RESISTANCE: North Dakota Legislators Plan To Nullify Biden’s Executive Orders At State Level

New legislation would mandate that the State of North Dakota ignore executive orders coming from the Biden administration that are unconstitutional

Republican legislators in North Dakota are taking a pro-active – and constitutional – step to push back against unconstitutional executive orders coming out of the Biden administration, and they are doing so with the power of the US Constitution in their corner.

A new bill introduced in the North Dakota State Legislature (HB1164), would instruct the state’s Attorney General to review the constitutionality of each of the executive orders issued by Joe Biden.

Under the proposed law, should the North Dakota Attorney General find that any executive orders are unlawful – or unconstitutional, the executive order would be “nullified,” it would prohibit any state, county, or local agency – or publicly funded organization – from enforcing the order(s).

The proposed legislation was introduced by State Rep. Tom Kading (R), and eight other Republicans in the North Dakota House.

Specifically, the proposed HB1164, enumerates the following issues for nullification:

Pandemics or other health emergencies

The regulation of natural resources, including coal and oil

The regulation of the agriculture industry

The use of land

The regulation of the financial sector as it relates to environmental, social, or governance standards

The regulation of the constitutional right to keep and bear arms

Additionally, State Rep. Sebastian Ertelt (R), has introduced legislation that would affect the same fate to unconstitutional legislation coming out of the Federal Legislative Branch.

Ertelt’s HB1282 would create a “Committee on Neutralization of Federal Laws.”

This committee, comprised of state legislative leadership and their appointees, would recommend whether a given Federal law or regulation is unconstitutional. Should the committee find that a law or regulation is unconstitutional, the North Dakota Legislature would pass a concurrent resolution on whether to nullify the transgressing law or edict.

After the committee’s recommendation – and until the resolution is passed, state, county, and local agencies would be prohibited from enforcing the law or regulation.

These proposed laws are in a good position to be codified. North Dakota Republicans control the Senate 40 to 7, and the House 80 to14.

Hillsong founder denies $20M lawsuit and claims of riding high on church dime

When things go south, deny everything.

That appears to be the current strategy of Hillsong megachurch’s senior pastor and founder, Brian Houston. He has taken to Twitter and reportedly internal email groups to dismiss the existence of a $20 million lawsuit against the church, as well as The Post’s reporting on alleged misuse of tithing money by pastors at the Australia-based institution’s American branches.

“If anyone out there is even interested. Hillsong is NOT being sued for 20 million dollars. This story is completely untrue,” Houston, 66, tweeted Tuesday, offering no evidence to prove the New South Wales Supreme Court suit filed by Rosebery, Australia, homeowners against a Hillsong developer does not exist.

Houston has also apparently taken up a denial-based public relations campaign via email, reportedly messaging congregants on Monday to say that former members’ accounts of pastors’ spending habits were lies.

“We are particularly grieved that, in many cases, inaccurate accounts in these stories have been reported as if they are true,” Houston allegedly wrote in the email blast, which was obtained by The Post, rehashing that the scandal-ridden megachurch knows “many of the stories circulating are not true.” The email then launches into a bulleted list of various ways the church upholds its “biblical responsibility” to be financially ethical, including such vague statements as “careless spending is not permitted” and “team salaries are moderate.”

The email ends with a reminder that Vision Sunday — a large, annual event when many congregants make donation commitments for the year (“Salvation is flowing,” a promotional trailer declares) — is “just around the corner.”

Operation Argus – High-Altitude Nuclear Detonations in 1958

Background

In late summer of 1958, the United States Navy Task Force 88 (TF 88) conducted one of the U.S.’s most expeditiously planned and executed nuclear tests operations, codenamed ARGUS, when it conducted three high-altitude nuclear tests in the south Atlantic Ocean. Operation Argus was unique among U.S. atmospheric nuclear test operations in that its main objective was neither for diagnostic tests of a weapons design nor for effects tests for military systems. Instead Operation Argus was conducted to establish a proof of theory that a very high-altitude nuclear detonation could produce phenomena of potentially significant military importance by interfering with communications and weapons performance. When the Eisenhower Administration subsequently released the occurrence of these tests to the public in the spring of 1959, it was hailed as the “greatest scientific experiment ever conducted.”

The Argus nuclear tests grew out an idea conceived of by Lawrence Livermore physicist Nicholas Christofilos. In late 1957 and early 1958, Christofilos examined the possibility that a nuclear detonation at an extremely high altitude would create an artificial radiation belt in the upper regions of the Earth’s atmosphere. Naturally occurring belts of electrically charged particles above the Earth had just been discovered by Explorer I, the first satellite launched by the United States in early 1958. These particles, named the Van Allen belts, in honor of the man who directed the experiment that discovered them, consist of high-energy electrons and protons ejected from great solar flares that are trapped in the Earth’s geomagnetic field.

Livermore’s Christofilos theorized that a nuclear detonation several hundred miles above the Earth could produce a shell of trapped radiation in the upper atmosphere, orientated along the Earth’s magnetic field, like the Van Allen belts. The theory was of extreme interest to the United States government, particularly the Department of Defense, for the possible effects that an artificially created radiation belt might have on its defense systems, including degradation of radio and radar transmission and damage or destruction to ICBM warheads entering the belt.

Soon after Christofilos published his findings, the President’s Science Advisory Committee convened a working group at the Livermore Laboratory to discuss the military implications. With the looming possibility of an atmospheric nuclear test moratorium that Fall, the group recommended that a test of the theory be conducted as soon as possible. As such, in April 1958, the decision was made to proceed with Operation Argus as a major national undertaking, under the direction of former Livermore Director Herb York, then chief scientist for the new Advanced Research Projects Agency of the DOD.

Victoria returns to harsher restrictions as Melbourne hotel quarantine worker tests positive for COVID-19; WA lockdown continues

Summary

Victoria will return to harsher COVID-19 restrictions and up to 600 Australian Open players, officials and support staff have been told to isolate and get tested after a hotel quarantine worker tested positive to coronavirus on Wednesday. All tennis matches at Melbourne Park today have been called off.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said in a late-night press conference on Wednesday that the state would return to mandatory masks indoors, would reintroduce caps on gatherings to 15 people in a household and would pause the 75 per cent return to work, scheduled to begin on Monday.

Western Australia continues to face twin emergencies - a coronavirus lockdown and devastating bushfires - as Perth residents enter their fourth day of a hard five-day lockdown.

NSW reached its 17th day without a case of community transmission on Wednesday, while Queensland clocked up 23 days without a locally acquired case.

The federal government is working with the biotech industry on ways to establish large-scale mRNA vaccine manufacturing in Australia as a group of senior scientists work on a parallel plan to enable local production of the cutting-edge jabs.

McCarthy announces no disciplinary actions against Greene

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) announced no disciplinary actions against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) in a statement released as he met with his caucus.

During the meeting, he told members he did not want to remove Greene from her committee assignment, according to a senior GOP source in the room.

In the statement, McCarthy condemned her incendiary remarks, but offered no disciplinary actions.

“Past comments from and endorsed by Marjorie Taylor Greene on school shootings, political violence, and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories do not represent the values or beliefs of the House Republican Conference," the statement read. "I condemn those comments unequivocally. I condemned them in the past. I continue to condemn them today. This House condemned QAnon last Congress and continues to do so today.”

McCarthy met with Greene on Tuesday, and the GOP leader said he gave her the same message.

“I made this clear to Marjorie when we met. I also made clear that as a member of Congress we have a responsibility to hold ourselves to a higher standard than how she presented herself as a private citizen. Her past comments now have much greater meaning. Marjorie recognized this in our conversation. I hold her to her word, as well as her actions going forward.”

The House is set to vote on removing Greene from her committee assignments on Thursday.

She is a member of the Education and Labor Committee, a point of scrutiny given her past statements suggesting school shootings were staged to build the case for gun control.

She has also been heavily criticized for past remarks supporting the execution of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and perpetuating conspiracy theories that the 9/11 terrorist attacks were a hoax and that lasers in space controlled by a Jewish family were responsible for wildfires in McCarthy's home state of California.

Senate GOP leaders have condemned Greene forcefully, but have no power on her committee assignments.

“Loony lies and conspiracy theories are cancer for the Republican Party and our country,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said in a statement first shared with The Hill on Monday.

Other Republicans have offered support for Greene keeping her assignments.
