Biden received more money from teachers unions than any other candidate in 2020
White House has distanced itself from previous CDC director comments that schools can reopen without vaccinated teachers
President Biden received more contributions from teachers unions than any other candidate during the 2020 election cycle by a wide margin – underscoring the conundrum that may be headed for the White House if those same unions continue to oppose efforts to open schools for in-person learning.
Biden's campaign raked in just over $232,000 from teachers unions during the 2020 election cycle, according to the Center for Responsive Politics' "Open Secrets" website. The site says the National Education Association (NEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) "account for practically all" political spending from teachers unions.
The second-highest recipient was Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., who got $50,996.
The amount of money that went directly to any one candidate, however, pales in comparison to the money teachers unions donated to liberal groups in general – over $23.5 million from the NEA and over $14 million from the AFT. Combined, those two groups spent $43 million in political expenditures during the 2020 election cycle, according to Open Secrets.
They both endorsed Biden for the presidency in March.
And the unions' influence in Democratic politics doesn't stop at money the AFT has 1.7 million members, according to its website, while the NEA has more than 3 million members according to its site. That's well over half of Biden's popular vote margin of victory over former President Trump in November a hefty chunk of the electorate. According to the NEA, one out of every 39 voters lives in a household with at least one NEA member.
This influence could set the Biden White House on a collision course with some of its most powerful political backers as the president tries to fulfill a promise he made before assuming office – to get kids in classrooms.
"If Congress provides the funding, we need to protect students, educators and staff. If states and cities put strong public health measures in place that we all follow, then my team will work to see that the majority of our schools can be open by the end of my first 100 days," Biden said in December.
That priority is broadly supported, with parents and kids nationwide speaking about the mental anguish caused by isolation and remote learning as well as the economic costs on the parents and a generation of students falling behind in school.

Fox News cancels Lou Dobbs Tonight
Dobbs was one of the networks' most pro-Trump hosts
Fox News canceled "Lou Dobbs Tonight" from its lineup and is expected to part ways with the show's host, it was reported Friday.
Dobbs, 75, has been one of the most stalwart defenders of former President Donald Trump on his show and often featured interviews from the Trump campaign and the former administration.
The program aired twice daily on Fox News Business. It had its last show on Friday with guest hosts, and will be replaced with "Fox Business Tonight."
Some speculated that the move might have been related to a $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit filed by voting machine company Smartmatic on Thursday. The filing specifically mentioned Dobbs' comments related to claims that the company helped rig the election against Trump.
However, a spokesperson for Fox News denied the contention to the Los Angeles Times, saying, "As we said in October, Fox News Media regularly considers programming changes and plans have been in place to launch new formats as appropriate post-election, including on Fox Business. This is part of those planned changes. A new 5 p.m. program will be announced in the near future."
Dobbs has not commented publicly on the announcement.

A Virginia woman is facing death threats and investigation by the FBI after liberal comedian Kathy Griffin doxed the mother of two and her family on social media.
In a desperate bid for attention, Kathy Griffin reposted the picture of her holding a fake, severed head of President Trump for the third time on social media in January.
“Just resign now. You lost. It’s over,” Griffin gloated in a tweet alongside the famous photo of her holding the plastic, bloody head.
Daniel McCarty, a 43-year old former Democrat, shot back at Griffin for promoting violence against the president and her world has been turned upside down since.
“The despicable Kathy Griffin is at it again,” McCarty, a former Democrat who recently became a Trump supporter, replied.
Griffin deleted the tweet that angered McCarty, but she and her 2.1 million followers capitalized on the photo depicting Trump’s beheading by targeting McCarty and family.
The D-list actress warned in Jan. 9 tweet that the stay at home mother of two is a “domestic terrorist.”
McCarty has been mobbed with hundreds of hateful messages daily since Griffin’s attack.
“I was out playing in the snow with my family, came back in from the cold and checked my Instagram and I was flooded with messages, hundreds of messages on each of my accounts, all from her followers saying really disgusting, nasty, mean things,” McCarty explained in an interview with the Gateway Pundit. “My husband is freaked out. He’s scared for his family. He’s scared he’ll lose his job. We’ve received threats. They’ve doxed me. They know where we live.”
On Jan. 30, the washed-up comedian posted a screenshot of McCarty’s at the “Save America” on the National Mall on Jan. 6, warning “the FBI now has the video.”

Sebastian Gorka: Democrats Working on Amendment for NSA, CIA to Target Americans as Terrorists
The Biden administration is working with congressional committees to allow intelligence agencies to “target” American citizens as terrorists, Sebastian Gorka, host of the America First radio show, warned on Thursday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow.
Gorka stated, “I was informed yesterday by a private citizen that the Biden administration — and this comes on top of what Austin is doing with the military — but the Biden administration is working with the Senate and House intelligence committees to make amendments to an executive order from the 1980s — it’s called 12333 — to permit the NSA and the CIA to target U.S. citizens as domestic terror threats.”
Executive Order 12333, titled “United States Intelligence Activities,” lays out parameters for government surveillance of both U.S. citizens and aliens at home and abroad.
Democrats and their news media allies amplified their characterizations of political opponents as domestic terror threats in recent weeks.
Gorka addressed Democrat plans to politically screen military and law enforcement to ensure compliance with leftism.
“This is their attempt to criminalize being a conservative,” Gorka determined. “When [Lloyd Austin] was in his Senate hearing for confirmation, he said, and I quote directly, that we have ‘enemies‘ in the armed forces of America. The word ‘enemy’ is what you use for somebody you’re going to destroy, you’re going to shoot, you’re going to blow up. He’s talking about enemies in the Army, the Marine Corps, the Air Force, the Navy, the Coast Guard. That’s the person who’s in charge of the DOD right now.”
Gorka noted that Democrats and the broader left have no intention of pursuing Black Lives Matter of Antifa persons as “enemies” or “extremists.”
Gorka remarked, “What they’re doing on Capitol Hill, right now, in closed session, they’re trying to expand — legally — the warrantless surveillance of U.S. citizens by the NSA and the CIA to target Trump supporters as a made-up threat to America.”
Marlow replied, “They’re trying to expand the definition of violence, and they’ve been doing this for a long time. They’ve been trying to expand it so that any right-wing thought is considered incitement and any left-wing violence is considered legitimate protest.”
The FBI is already targeting former President Donald Trump’s supporters, Gorka shared.
Gorka remarked, “This is not a theory. This is happening right now. … I am having reported to me by the most reliable sources that women [and] mothers are having the FBI knock on their doors because they were at the march on January 6, not inside Congress, not inside the building, not walking through the velvet ropes to Nancy [Pelosi’s] podium, but simply at the Trump rally. The FBI had tracked them down using the mobile phone positioning data of these individuals.”
“They want to label you as a domestic threat so that anybody who disagrees with the left will be targeted as a terrorist,” concluded Gorka.
