I'm not a planefag, but maybe the planefags can jump on this a bit more.

Q's pic, looks to be about 5.5 to 6 miles from takeoff from the San Jose Airport (SJC). heading north from airport.

If a planefag can check usual altitude from takeoff and usual paths from takeoff from SJC, there might be something here to confirm.

I could not get the Google Earth Image exactly lined up to Q's pic, but it has some positives.
