The Two Largest Sources of Industrial Demand For Silver Are About to Explode Higher

It’s not just the Reddit crowd or the Short Squeeze movement.
A big change is underway with silver demand, one that is structural in nature. It will last years, perhaps decades. This built-in demand is likely to put an ever-growing strain on supply, and it will affect you as both a consumer and an investor.
What am I referring to?
The Green Revolution = the Silver Revolution
Currently, the largest industrial use of silver comes from the photovoltaic sector. And the Silver Institute says that within four years, the second biggest industrial use of silver will come from the automotive industry.
Research shows that demand from both of these sectors is about to grow substantially. This is partly due to a widespread attempt to incorporate more green technologies into society, but it’s also because more silver metal is used in green technologies than conventional ones. Not only that, it’s cheaper and more effective.

Automotive Demand for Silver
Global electric vehicle (EV) sales were 3.24 million in 2020, up a whopping 43% over 2019 (and in the midst of a global pandemic).
The jump was so big that an analyst at InvestorIntel.com said:
“The second half of 2020 will be remembered as the time when the serious EV disruption of ICE (internal combustion engine) began.”
Numerous consultancies report EV sales are going nowhere but up. BloombergNEF forecasts global EV sales will surge 60% this year, while IHS Markit predicts a 70% rise. These are huge increases within a 12-month period.
This is what the projected growth looks like for EV and Hybrid vehicles.
Hybrid and EV Growth Will Accelerate–And Require More Silver
The change is so big that one analyst said this (emphasis mine): “conventional car companies are now in panic mode… given that by 2030 most new car sales will be electric, the conventional car companies now realize they need to move fast or face bankruptcy.”
The push is on. And it’s caused many of the big carmakers to pick up their game:
Elon Musk said that Tesla plans to reach 20 million annual EV sales by 2030. That would be an enormous jump; it produced only 430,400 units over the past four quarters.
BMW plans to double the number of EVs it offers to 25 models by 2023, with more than half of them fully electric.
Daimler will invest €70 billion ($85 billion) between 2021 and 2025 into EVs.
Volvo Cars will triple electric production capacity in Ghent after a strong year of EV sales.
Volkswagen is boosting total “digital mobility” expenditures to €150 billion.
This is all significant because EVs use almost twice as much silver as an ICE vehicle. Hybrids use about 22% more silver.
