Georgia State Official Probing Trump's Effort to Overturn Election Results, Spokesperson Says

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger's office has opened an investigation into allegations that former US President Donald Trump tried to overturn the state's 2020 election results, the state's Communications Manager for Voter Education, Walter Jones, told Sputnik.

"Yes, I can confirm," Jones said on Monday when asked to confirm reports that Raffensperger has formally opened a probe into Trump's effort to overturn the state's 2020 election results.

The investigation followed an earlier leaked record of a 2 January phone call between the former American president and Raffensperger, in which Trump is heard requesting that the Georgia state secretary "find" additional votes that would make him the winner of the 3 November, 2020, election, which, Trump claimed, was stolen from him.

The phone record was dubbed "a smoking gun", with many accusing Trump of abuse of power and calling for the second impeachment - which, ironically, was very close, as Trump is the first US president to be impeached twice, after he was accused of "incitement of insurrection" for the deadly 6 January Capitol building riot.

According to Georgia Republican Party Chairman David Shafer, Trump has filed two lawsuits against Raffensperger for releasing "confidential conversation".

The record of the conversation was released by The Washington Post in early January, prompting a wave of reactions. According to the recordings, Trump pressured Raffensperger to recalculate the votes in the state, while also promoting claims of election "fraud" and accusing the Georgia state secretary of "knowing" about irregularities and refusing to report them.

Raffensperger, in the phone conversation, is heard repeatedly denying the president's claims and attempting to explain to Trump that his data is "wrong".

Trump, who left the White House on 20 January, never conceded to his Democratic successor Joe Biden, claiming that the election was "stolen" due to massive "voter fraud". According to Trump, it was him, not Biden, who won the swing states, including Georgia.

The former president has repeatedly claimed that there were voting irregularities in the state, particularly that "thousands of ballots" were dumped and the Republican observers were not given proper access to the ballot counting locations.

Jeffries said on MSNBC “The Sunday Show” that such an argument would be a “false equivalence.” He then wondered how the two could be compared when the Black Lives Matter protests were peaceful 93 percent of the time and “consistent with the First Amendment” whereas the Capitol riot was “incited” by Trump.

WHO Chief Says 'Concerning News' COVID Vaccines May Not Work Against Novel Strains

In December 2020 a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 was reported in South Africa. The mutation, known as 501.V2, is said to be more aggressive and dangerous for young men. The highly transmissible new strain could also be resistant to existing COVID-19 vaccines.

On Monday, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stressed that the emergence of new coronavirus mutations poses the problem of the effectiveness of existing vaccines. At a media briefing he suggested that it was "concerning news" that existing vaccines may not work as well against the new variant, first detected in South Africa.

Tedros outlined an essential need for vaccine manufacturers to upgrade their existing shots, saying booster shots would most likely be necessary as the new strain is quickly spreading throughout the world and could become the predominant coronavirus variant.

According to the WHO chief, South Africa's prohibition of the AstraZeneca vaccine following earlier reports that the drug does not protect against mild to moderate Covid-19 infections, is “a reminder that we need to do everything we can to reduce circulation of the virus with proven public health measures.”

He added that WHO will announce its decision on whether it will recommend the AstraZeneca vaccine for emergency use “in the next few days.” If the drug is approved, poor countries will receive the shots under COVAX, a UN-backed effort to distribute COVID-19 vaccines worldwide.

As a study, published on 6 February, revealed, a two-dose regimen of the Oxford/AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine is not effective against mild to moderate forms of the illness caused by the new variant, while the drug, according to AstraZeneca spokesperson, “could protect against severe disease.”

South African authorities announced on December 19, 2020, that a second wave of the pandemic in the country was caused by the new coronavirus variant 501.V2, identified October 2020 in the southern Nelson Mandela Bay County in the Eastern Cape province on the Indian Ocean coast. According to local researchers, the new strain is more aggressive and primarily affects the young.

Earlier last year, a British strain of COVID-19 was identified, more infectious and deadly than previously-encountered genetic variants of SARS-CoV-2 in the country. WHO announced, however, that there is “no clear evidence of the new variant being associated with more severe disease or worse outcomes.”

Last week, the peer-reviewed medical journal The Lancet published a report analyzing the third phase of the Sputnik V trial. The article put the Russian drug among world's top vaccines, with a 91.6 percent efficacy against symptomatic COVID-19.

“In the past few months, after taking in over 350 patients, we have not lost one,” while treating patients with hydroxychloroquine, said Immanuel. “Not a diabetic, not somebody with high blood pressure, not somebody with asthma, not an old person. We’ve not lost one patient.”

She continued, “On top of that, I’ve put myself, my staff, and many doctors that I know, on hydroxychloroquine for prevention, because by the very mechanism of action, it works early and as a prophylactic. Immanuel received a second round of praise when she offered to prescribe President Trump – who described her as “very impressive” when asked by the press – hydroxychloroquine after he was diagnosed with COVID-19 last year.

Man who calls himself ‘radical jew slayer’ arrested in Texas by FBI

An alleged white nationalist apparently intent on killing members of the Jewish faith has been charged with a federal firearm offense, announced Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Prerak Shah.

Christian Michael Mackey, 20, was charged via criminal complaint with unlawful sale of a firearm. FBI agents arrested him at a parking lot near his home in Grand Prairie Friday evening. He made his initial appearance in federal court before U.S. Magistrate Judge Irma Carrillo Ramirez Monday. A detention hearing has been set for 1 p.m. Wednesday.

“The Department of Justice is committed to enforcing our nation’s gun laws, which are designed to keep firearms out of the hands of dangerous individuals. This defendant’s indiscriminate sale of an AM-15 to a convicted felon could have put lives at risk, had the buyer not turned the gun over to the FBI,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Prerak Shah. “Although adherence to a repugnant ideology is not a crime in and of itself, unlawful sale is – and we are determined to hold Mr. Mackey accountable.”

“The FBI’s investigative focus is on criminal activity, regardless of group affiliation,” said FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge Matthew J. DeSarno, “Mr. Mackey’s disregard for the law as he is alleged to have knowingly sold a firearm to a felon could have put lives at risk. We are proud to work with our law enforcement partners to provide protection for our communities.”

According to the complaint, Mr. Mackey regularly posted in online chats organized by the Iron Youth, a Neo-Nazi white nationalist group dedicated to national socialism, militancy, and political terror. The group espouses “siege” ideology – using a series of anti-government terrorist attacks to instigate a race war.

On Instagram, Mr. Mackey said he liked “control and killing,” called himself a “radical jew slayer,” and vowed he would “die attacking the sustem [sic].” He urged fellow group members to kill Jews and African Americans.

At a meeting with an undercover FBI agent in December, Mr. Mackey allegedly expressed interest in selling his rifle in order to purchase another firearm, and stated that another Iron Youth member had recommended a ghost-gun, a homemade pistol without a serial number. He later changed his mind, telling the agent he would prefer to purchase a traditional rifle.

At a subsequent meeting, the undercover agent offered to facilitate the sale of Mr. Mackey’s gun to another individual, who the undercover agent warned was a felon. Mr. Mackey allegedly told the agent he “could care less” who bought his gun.

On Jan. 29, Mr. Mackey sold his AM-15 to a paid FBI source with multiple felony convictions.

At the undercover agent’s direction, the pair met at a gas station in Grand Prairie, then drove to an adjacent parking lot, where the source purchased the weapon for $800. Mr. Mackey asked if the source was “based” (a term used to indicate an embrace of white supremacist ideology) then indicated that he’d heard the source was a felon, but didn’t care.

Immediately following the sale, the AM-15 was taken into FBI custody.

If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in federal prison. If convicted, as a felon, he would be permanently barred from possessing a firearm.

Pompano Beach, FL — (​Broward Sheriff’s Office) – Detectives say there was more on the menu at a Pompano Beach restaurant than just Chicago-style hot dogs, pizza and chili.

According to deputies, restaurateur Louis Younglove Sr. not only served up hot dogs with fixings. He helped some people get their fix by peddling drugs.

BSO detectives culminated a monthslong investigation on Thursday, Feb. 4 when they conducted a traffic stop on Younglove at 334 S.E. 15th St. in the parking lot of his restaurant, Chi-Town Chicago Italian Beef & Hot Dogs.

Inside a duffle bag in Younglove’s car, detectives found a smorgasbord of illegal drugs – cocaine, fentanyl, ecstasy, marijuana and various prescription drugs. Detectives also found more than $18,000 in cash. Younglove’s son, Adam, was a passenger in the car. He was found in possession of fentanyl and marijuana and was arrested.

On the same day, detectives served a search warrant at Younglove’s Oakland Park home and discovered even more illegal narcotics inside, as well as nearly half a million dollars in cash.

“This was not like your average street supplier who maybe sold a couple of bags of cocaine on the side. This was a systematic operation to distribute a lot of narcotics. He had a lot of cash,” said BSO Lt. Andrea Tianga. “This was not normal for your average street sale. This was a huge operation.”

“This was a great person to get off the street. The community was completely fed up which is how we became involved,” Tianga said. “This was a significant amount of narcotics, prepackaged for selling, and it was a significant amount of money that didn’t seem to us to be like through hot dog sales.”

Using a myriad of investigative techniques, BSO disrupted this major narcotics operation and ended the days of Chi-Town being “High-Town” for drug seekers. As a result of the investigation, Younglove Sr. faces more than a dozen criminal charges and is currently being held in jail.

It flickered brightly and briefly, but a rare window of free speech in Communist China has been slammed shut.

While accessible, thousands of Chinese embraced Clubhouse, a popular audio-based app named now valued at more than $1.3 billion, to talk about topics and issues forbidden by their government.

Clubhouse, which momentarily operated away from the shadow of China's Great Firewall, allowed young Chinese to speak with strangers in Hong Kong, Taiwan and other parts of the world.

Like passing audio notes behind the teacher's back, Chinese users asked about the Tiananmen Square massacre, Hong Kong protests, female orgasm and reports of mass detentions of Uighurs.

But today, scores of Chinese users were reporting they had been blocked from the app.

"We all knew the day was coming when the Firewall would come down on Clubhouse. We were only allowed a few days of freedom," one wrote on the microblog Weibo.

Clubhouse has rocketed in popularity recently, especially after Elon Musk spoke on the platform.

Other celebrity users include Oprah Winfrey, Ashton Kutcher, Drake and Azealia Banks.

Clubhouse operates on a user-only invite system, with The Financial Times reporting invitations in China were trading online at $100 per invite.

According to TechCrunch, Clubhouse's API was blocked on Monday around 7pm Beijing time.

TechCrunch reported Clubhouse rooms titled "How long will Clubhouse last in China" and "Have you been invited to have tea for using Clubhouse?" attracted big crowds before the app was pulled.

"Having tea" is slang for being taken away for interrogation by the police.

Other rooms, which can hold a maximum of 5000 people, were set up to discuss alleged internment camps, coronavirus and relations between Taiwan and mainland China.

As their fixation on climate change, purported systemic racism, unfettered immigration and the pursuit of fictitious and unattainable societal equity will permanently damage the economy and destroy any meaningful growth in the standard of living of the nearly all Americans.

Over the decades, this country’s enormous and ever-expanding Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has allowed government at all levels to spend or borrow whatever monies were necessary to offset the losses from natural and man-made cataclysms and/or re-start the economy after a downturn. They could do so safe in the knowledge that the GDP, thanks to the productivity and ingenuity of the American people, would always grow and provide a consistent level of tax receipts and, in essence, collateral for borrowing. Thus, the wealth of the United States has always been the nation’s fallback position in order to come through wars and recessions or cope with natural disasters.

The probability of a major natural disaster striking a nation as large and geologically diverse as the United States is high. The country is presently experiencing the deleterious fallout from a historically minor pandemic and every year hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes cause enormous property damage and loss of life.

Over the past century the world has, on average, experienced a pandemic every 17 years. The current Chinese coronavirus pandemic, while historically minor as compared to many previous pandemics over the centuries, has exposed the enormous cost that would be experienced if a major viral or other outbreak occurs in the future.

In 2020 the deficit spending, almost entirely due to the coronavirus, was $3.3 Trillion and in 2021 it will be at least $3.0 Trillion, which includes Biden’s current $1.9 Trillion so-called COVID-19 relief legislation. By contrast, the accumulated national debt in the 212 years from 1790 to 2002 was $6.2 Trillion as compared to $6.3 Trillion in 2020-21alone.
