KIRKLAND, Wash. — Bobby Jones recalls struggling for years with his internal feelings.

“I think since I was 4 I started saying I wish I was a boy," Bobby, now 13 years old, said recently. "I didn’t know why I was feeling it or what it was."

Last summer, the Kirkland teen decided to make the transition from a young woman to a young man.

“Finally people are recognizing that we are not different," Bobby said. "We are human, too."

He is now part of Washington state’s rapidly growing transgender rights movement, which has been boosted recently by a host of executive orders from President Biden that are aimed at preventing discrimination on the basis of gender and sexual orientation.

Part of the language in Biden's order says, “Children should be able to learn without worrying about whether they will be denied access to the restroom, the locker room, or school sports.”
