The reason was to capitalize on their lack of credibility (destroyed during the O admin), and using reverse psychology, get patriots to rally around a president that was in fact just as much of an enemy. It worked perfectly, as millions of Americans rallied around a president that sold us out to Israel and China every step of the way, and even administered a scam that rivals 9/11 if not outright putting it to shame. And still today, none of "these people are stupid" patriots are even raising an eyebrow. The impeachment is just to martyr Trump so he's cemented as a victimized hero instead of the controlled op POS he was.
