Anyone else had an email like this from their water provider?

"You may remember the Beast from the East in 2018 caused nationwide disruption. Pipes that had frozen during the cold weather suddenly thawed, causing bursts within water networks and, at times, within customers' homes as well.

From tomorrow, we are expecting a similar rapid thaw, after weeks of below freezing temperatures.

What we're doing to prepare

We're putting additional teams of our key workers on standby and have full stocks of water main fixtures and fittings at the ready, so we can respond to bursts quickly when they happen.

We have made sure our storage reservoirs are at full capacity to help keep supplies running during the freeze and thaw. Our teams also have plans in place so that we can divert water where it’s needed if there is a burst affecting your supply.

What you can do now

You can make sure your home is ready by following these simple steps.

Leave your central heating on the frost protection setting overnight

Check where your stop tap is to isolate your water supply and make sure it works

Put some water in a jug or bottles in the fridge, so you're covered in the event of an emergency

Take a look on our website to learn what to do if your pipes freeze so that you can get your water running again

We'd recommend you insulate any pipes or taps that are exposed to the cold, i.e in your loft or outside. There's a video on our website that shows you exactly how to insulate your water pipes with material that's easily available online"
