Some books were point blank about who it was written to. ("To the church in…..")
Hebrews is not one of those and nobody knows who wrote it but we can figure out who it was for
Jesus did not come to bring peace but a sword. They rejected him bcuz they wanted an earthly King to destroy the romans.
Back in those days there was 3 kind of Jews
1 - orthodox judaism was obviously the one kind. They were still waiting for the Messiah.
2 - There was the ones that believed Jesus was Messiah. Acceptance of his sacrifice (saved) and part of the body of Christ.
3 - But there was another group that wanted it both ways. They wanted the free gift of salvation. But they also thought they still had to do the sacrifice. That Jesus sacrifice wasn't good enough. The author wrote an entire book to convince them. ("Once you come to the knowledge of the truth, and screw up, there remain no more sacrifice"). The author was saying that you don't need to sacrifice anymore. Also had to go back over Jesus lineage and say how much better his sacrifice was then that of bulls and sheep.
