Congresswomanbacktracks onkeeping Epstein donations

By Kenneth Garger

July 9, 2019

Rep. Stacey Plaskettchanged courseon Tuesday, vowing to part ways with campaign donations she received from convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

The lawmaker, who represents the US Virgin Islands, said in a statement that she will match the amount she’s received over the years from Epstein and donate the funds to organizations in her district that work with women and children.

“I am uncomfortable having received money from someone who has been accused of these egregious actions multiple times,” Plaskett said.

“I want it to be clear that I in no way support the allegations and have confidence in the Southern District of New York to investigate and prosecute the matter.”

Tuesday’s move is an about-face from a day earlier, when it was originallyreported by CNBC that she’d likely__ retain__ contributions from Epstein, who has thrice donated $2,700 to the Democratic congresswoman’s campaign.

Epstein, who was arrested Saturday, is facing new charges of sex trafficking and conspiracy for allegedly sexually abusing underage girls at his Manhattan townhouse and his $12 million estate in Palm Beach, Fla., between 2002 and 2005.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges on Monday in Manhattan federal court.
