Two busted for dirty-diaper attack on conservative reporter

Two men were busted for rubbing a dirty diaper on an independent, conservative reporter’s face and attacking her during a Black Lives Matter rally in Madison Square Park last month, according to authorities and police sources.

Tara Anne Szczepanski, 33, was filming the rally around noon Jan. 10 when a group shoved her around, hit her on the head with an egg and knocked her cellphone to the ground with an umbrella, cops and the sources said.

The caught-on-video scuffle continued as Szczepanski ran from the group, cops said.

She was sprayed with silly string and whacked with a skateboard before someone rubbed a used baby diaper on her face, video shows.

Juarde Benn, 20, of Flatbush, was busted Friday in connection to the attack and charged with attempted assault, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and stalking, according to police.

Saqunn Jackson, 23, of University Heights, was arrested late Tuesday afternoon and charged with aggravated harassment and stalking.

Szczepanski, who has previously participated in beauty pageants, describes herself on LinkedIn as an independent reporter and social media journalist.

“Attacked at a #BLM #Antifa #NyC rally, smashed egg in my head, hit with umbrella, spat on, knocked with a skateboard, as the crowd says, ‘Don’t protect [her], she’s for Trump,’” Szczepanski tweeted, along with a video clip, the day of the incident.

Biden announces new Pentagon China task force

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced at the Pentagon a new review of how the U.S. military is postured to deter China in the Pacific.

Biden, who was joined for his first department visit since taking office by Vice President Kamala Harris, said the review will help “chart a strong path forward on China related matters.”

“It will require a whole of government efforts, bipartisan cooperation in Congress and strong alliances and partners,” Biden said. “That is how we will meet the china challenge and ensure the American people win the competition of the future.”

The effort, described by the department as a “sprint,” is aimed at delivering its findings to defense secretary Lloyd Austin within four months; however, the report is not expected to include a public-facing document.

It will be made up of “up to” 15 civilian and uniformed officials, will be led by Ely Ratner, a former deputy national security adviser to Biden who joined the department as Austin’s special assistant on China.

Per a department factsheet, the authors will take a deep-dive into the department’s strategy; operational concepts; technology and force structure; force posture and force management; intelligence; alliances and partnerships; and military relations with China.

Under the Trump administration, the defense department shifted itself to focus more on China, with resources increasing to the pacific and the creation of a new deputy assistant secretary of defense role just to focus on Beijing.

A focus on China appears to be one of the few areas where the Trump and Biden administrations share common ground, as Biden has signaled a whole-of-government approach, including appointing Kurt Campbell as the White House Asia coordinator.

The review joins a growing number of oversight efforts launched by Austin since his Jan. 22 confirmation. Last week, Austin announced a broad force global posture review, as well as a 60-day “stand down” period during which commanders are to discuss extremism in the military. He also issued guidance that environmental issues should be factored into strategic planning and the budget going forward.

A 'Disturbing Pattern' of Deadly Army Black Hawk Crashes Has Lawmakers Asking Questions

A Democratic senator from New York has called on the new defense secretary to investigate a "disturbing pattern" of UH-60 Black Hawk crashes that have claimed the lives of nine Army National Guard soldiers since December 2019.

"Three crashes involving the National Guard's use of the UH-60 in just over a year raises significant concerns about a systemic issue with the Black Hawk helicopter operation cycle," Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, wrote in a Feb. 5 letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

Gillibrand's letter follows two Black Hawk crashes this year, one that killed three Idaho Guard pilots Feb. 2 and one that killed three New York Guard pilots Jan. 20. An earlier Black Hawk crash on Dec. 5, 2019, killed three Minnesota Guard soldiers.

A separate Aug. 27, 2020, crash in California that killed two members of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment who were flying in a special operations version of the Black Hawk known as the MH-60 "raises additional questions that we urgently need answered," Gillibrand said in her letter to Austin.

"Accordingly, I ask that you take all necessary steps to promptly investigate these incidents to determine if they fit a larger pattern of malfunction with the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter," she added.

The U.S. Army Combat Readiness Center at Fort Rucker, Alabama, is investigating the recent Idaho and New York Guard crashes as "disparate events," Gillibrand said in her letter.

The summary results of the December 2019 Minnesota Guard UH-60 crash investigation concluded that the "helicopter's number one engine failed during a maximum power check while the number two engine was in an idle setting, causing a dual engine-out condition. The failure was attributed to the incorrect installation of the engine's hydromechanical unit," Gillibrand said in the letter.

The investigation also found that the pilots failed to react properly to the critical situation and follow emergency procedures.

The Black Hawk entered service in the late 1970s. The Army is scheduled to begin replacing it in 2030 with the faster, more modern Future Long Range Assault Aircraft under the Future Vertical Lift program.

If this series of accidents represents a larger problem with the Cold War-era helicopter, Gillibrand asked that the Pentagon "produce recommendations and guidance regarding the operational readiness of the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter and its crew to ensure the safety of our service members," according to the letter.

She also requested that Austin provide a classified briefing on the status of the his investigation that should include "any mechanical, software, electrical, or other problems with the UH-60 Black Hawk that cause it to malfunction or make it further difficult to pilot, and … the Department of Defense's plan to rectify this issue," the letter states.

"Because of the ongoing danger posed to our service members, I ask for this briefing to occur as soon as the disparate investigations are complete," Gillibrand said in the letter.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST: WHO’s COVID Investigator is Recipient of Chinese Communist Cash, Worked With Wuhan Lab for 18 Years.

A high-profile member of the World Health Organization’s recent “investigative” trip to Wuhan to uncover the origins of COVID-19 has accepted research grants from the Chinese Communist Party and runs a controversial U.S.-based organization which collaborates with the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Peter Daszak’s ties to the Chinese Communist Party call into question the validity of his and the World Health Organization (WHO) investigative team which concluded that it is “extremely unlikely” COVID-19 came from a Chinese Communist Party lab. Their claims echo Chinese Communist Party narratives, and Daszak himself implored the world to not “rely” on U.S. intelligence for it is “wrong on many aspects” and “politically charged.”

In April 2020, Daszak told the Washington Post he had “no conflicts of interest,” despite working with the Wuhan lab for nearly 20 years. Daszak was Project Leader on a $3.7 million “grant supporting bat coronavirus surveillance at Wuhan Institute of Virology and… bat coronavirus gain-of-function research at Wuhan Institute of Virology.

EcoHealth.

Peter Daszak – who donated to Hillary Clinton 13 times in 2016 – serves as the president of EcoHealth Alliance, a research organization that has partnered with the Wuhan Institue of Virology (WIV) – the very same lab many count as the source of COVID-19.

The type of research conducted by the group in tandem with the WIV prompted concern among National Institutes of Health officials for its role in COVID-related research, as outlined in a letter by NIH’s Deputy Director for Extramural Research Dr. Michael Lauer.

Dr. Lauer announced the suspension of NIH grants to the group, which saw its studies engineer the “highly specific doorway into the human body” as COVID-19, as a response:

“It is our understanding that one of the sub-recipients of the grant funds is the Wuhan Institute of Virology (‘WIV’). It is our understanding that WIV studies the interaction between corona viruses and bats. The scientific community believes that the coronavirus causing COVID-19 jumped from bats to humans likely in Wuhan where the COVID-19 pandemic began. There are now allegations that the current crisis was precipitated by the release from WIV of the coronavirus responsible for COVID-19. Given these concerns, we are pursuing suspension of WIV from participation in Federal programs.”

Chinese State Media.

While speaking at a conference sponsored by state-run media outlet China Global Television Network (CGTN), Daszak also revealed that he was a recipient of Chinese Communist Party cash.

He revealed he “has been working in China in collaboration with Chinese scientists and the government of China for over 15 years supported by federal funding from the U.S. and federal funding from China.”

The news will cause concern that Daszak is nowhere near being the “independent” arbiter required to get to the bottom of the Wuhan COVID origins.
