Jeep pauses ad with Bruce Springsteen after musician’s DWI arrest goes public

Jeep says it’s pausing its Super Bowl ad starring musician Bruce Springsteen after it became public on Wednesday that he’d been arrested on drunken-driving charges late last year.
The news of the arrest came a few days after Springsteen had starred in the two-minute ad from the Stellantis (formerly Fiat-Chrysler) brand. The commercial urged Americans to come together and meet “in the middle.”
“It would be inappropriate for us to comment on the details of a matter we have only read about and we cannot substantiate,” a Jeep spokeswoman said in a statement to CNBC. “But it’s also right that we pause our Big Game commercial until the actual facts can be established.”

AUSTIN, Texas — A viral moment from November 2020 involving a Joe Biden campaign bus and a caravan of Donald Trump supporters in Central Texas may play a key role in the former president's second impeachment trial.
A House trial memorandum mentions the moments when a caravan of Trump supporters in Central Texas allegedly ambushed a Biden campaign bus on Interstate 35 near San Marcos, Texas.
KVUE reported that on Oct. 30, according to the San Marcos Police Department, officers received a call from the Biden-Kamala Harris campaign bus as they were on I-35 to request a police escort through San Marcos. Three officers responded, but due to the amount of traffic from an unrelated crash, they weren't able to catch up to the bus before it left the San Marcos jurisdiction.

Irresponsible Hype from Molly Ball and Time Magazine

Writing a column in Time magazine entitled, “The Secret History of the Shadow Campaign That Saved the 2020 Election,” Molly Ball would like to convince you that, if you’re worried about a conspiracy run by a wealthy, invisible cabal to rig the election against Donald Trump, you’re right. But the facts in her own story don’t entirely support her own breathless rhetoric. Are she and her editors at Time withholding more evidence? Letting overeager sources hang themselves in their headlong rush to burnish their reputations and fundraising lists? Or just being completely reckless and irresponsible in feeding the conspiracy-theory machine for clicks? Ball’s article raises some legitimate concerns, but it is written in a needlessly provocative style.

FBI misconduct news suspiciously arrives too late to help Trump

So, it was a witch hunt!
In the Jan. 30 edition, I read that FBI agent Kevin Clinesmith was given probation for his altering an email that was used to get a warrant to spy on the Trump campaign, "No prison for lawyer who doctored email in investigation of Trump." He stated, and the judge believed him, that it was not political but just a lazy "mistake." The article goes on to say that this was in spite of finding anti-Trump emails on his computer.
So, all those investigations and millions of dollars were part of the conspiracy against "The Donald" right from the start. The truth comes out after the election, on a weekend, and buried on a back page.
At this late date, nothing can be done and who cares. Let's just join together and sing "Kumbaya."

California fast tracking cannabis business licenses for refugees

As part of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s plan to support diversity, the California Bureau of Cannabis Control is expediting marijuana business licenses for refugees and asylum seekers, while some citizens spend years navigating the bureaucratic system.
Signed by Newsom on Sept. 27, 2020, AB 2113 requires state agencies to expedite and provide extra assistance to business license applicants with evidence they are a refugee, have been granted asylum or have a special immigrant visa. Prior laws prohibited state agencies from discriminating based on immigration status, but did not provide special status.
“California is a greater and more vibrant place because of our immigrant and refugee communities,” Newsom said. “I thank the Legislature for advancing these policies to support our fellow Californians, no matter where they were born.”
On Tuesday, the Bureau of Cannabis Control reached out to applicants for marijuana grows, pot shops and manufacturing facilities to let them know, that as of Jan. 1, refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants may seek an expedited licensure process.
“In order to receive the expedited licensure process, individuals must provide documentation of their refugee, asylee, or special immigrant visa status when submitting their application package,” the notice said. “Please note that this does not mean a license must be issued, but simply that the process will be expedited.”

Houston Doctor Fired for Giving Away Does of Covid Vaccine
The Vaccine Had to Be Used. He Used It. He Was Fired.

The Texas doctor had six hours. Now that a vial of Covid-19 vaccine had been opened on this late December night, he had to find 10 eligible people for its remaining doses before the precious medicine expired. In six hours.
Scrambling, the doctor made house calls and directed people to his home outside Houston. Some were acquaintances; others, strangers. A bed-bound nonagenarian. A woman in her 80s with dementia. A mother with a child who uses a ventilator.
After midnight, and with just minutes before the vaccine became unusable, the doctor, Hasan Gokal, gave the last dose to his wife, who has a pulmonary disease that leaves her short of breath.
For his actions, Dr. Gokal was fired from his government job and then charged with stealing 10 vaccine doses worth a total of $135 — a shun-worthy misdemeanor that sent his name and mug shot rocketing around the globe.
“It was my world coming down,” Dr. Gokal said in a telephone interview on Friday. “To have everything collapse on you. God, it was the lowest moment in my life.”
Ten doses of the Covid-19 vaccine would expire within hours, so a Houston doctor gave it to people with medical conditions, including his wife. What followed was “the lowest moment in my life,” Dr. Hasan Gokal said.
