‘When you’re removed, you’re removed’: Twitter chief says Trump ban is PERMANENT even if he's re-elected

10 Feb, 2021 16:45

Former President Donald Trump will never be allowed back on Twitter, even if he runs for office again in 2024 and wins, company Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal told CNBC.

"The way our policies work, when you're removed from the platform, you're removed from the platform,” Segal told CNBC on Wednesday, adding that bans are permanent "whether you're a commentator, you're a CFO, or you are a former or current public official.”

“Our policies don’t allow people to come back,” Segal stated.

Trump was banned from Twitter and a host of other social media platforms in January, after he addressed a crowd of supporters in Washington, DC who went on to force their way inside the US Capitol. Trump had told the supporters to protest “peacefully and patriotically,” but Twitter took offence at a pair of tweets he issued two days later, in which he praised the “American Patriots who voted for me,” and declared he would not be going to Joe Biden’s inauguration.

According to Twitter, these tweets “were highly likely to encourage and inspire people to replicate the criminal acts that took place at the US. Capitol on January 6, 2021,” and Trump’s account was suspended “due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

SPECIAL AGENTS AWARDED FOR BRAVERY DURING CONGRESSIONAL BASEBALL PRACTICE SHOOTING

Special Agent David Bailey, a Silver Spring native, of the Capitol Police received the Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery by Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), recognizing his actions during a shooting at a congressional baseball practice in 2017.

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) and lobbyist Matt Mika were shot and hospitalized for months.

At the July 16 ceremony, Capitol Police Special Agent Crystal Griner of Gwynn Oaks also received the award. The Maryland congressional delegation presented the award and is considered one of the highest honors for public safety officers.

Mika told RollCall, “Something that was bad, a lot of positives come out of it.”

Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) was there the day of the shooting and expressed his gratitude to Bailey and Griner.

“Anybody asks me who my heroes are in life — it starts with David and Crystal,” said Davis.

Bailey and Griner’s heroism has been acknowledged by others, too. In 2017, they were awarded the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor, which is the highest honor in law enforcement.
