WaPo gloats at TheDonald shutdown, blames QAnon

Not sure if this has been posted… article a few days old:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2021/02/05/why-thedonald-moderator-left/

https://archive.is/3pHI9

Background… the reddit subreddit TheDonald was one of the most active pro-Trump places online… maybe the most.

It got increasingly hassled by the reddit managers but they didn't seek to kill it until late in the game.

Eventually many of the mods set up https://thedonald.win/ as an alternative and I think most of the active users went there.

A few days ago the owner of the domain killed the site. The url now redirects to https://www.america.win/ where he posts his own thoughts.

The other mods set up https://patriots.win/ as a replacement.

When it was at reddit, the mods banned any discussion of Q. I recall reading something about how one of the mods had received word from a "WH insider" that Q was BS. I suspect that might be true, and suspect it was probably white hat disinfo. It wouldn't have helped back then to have the most active pro-Trump venue getting bogged down in debate on Q.

I looked at the new site periodically in the past year, and it definitely seemed that Q content was much more overt. (There was always Q content, but mostly "filtered" to remove Q refs…) Of course, none of it advocated violence, contrary to the fake news article. Obviously there were agents provocateur posts there, like here, but I don't think that any such stuff gained traction. Looks like they set the site up for the kill though.

And yet 8kun is still here.
