OVER 13 FUCKING CASES

COVID LOCKDOWN: Victoria announces major restrictions to combat coronavirus outbreak

Victoria will go into another Stage 4 lockdown with the five-kilometre radius, mandatory masks in all settings and the four essential reasons to leave home all coming back.

After the Holiday Inn cluster at Melbourne Airport expanded to 13 overnight on Thursday, there were fears it would force a snap lockdown for residents.

On Friday afternoon, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed there was no other option with more cases of the UK strain likely to be in the community.

“It is moving at a velocity that has not been seen anywhere in our country over the course of these last 12 months,” Andrews said.

Stage 4 restrictions return

From 11.59pm on Friday and for five days, Victorians will only be allowed to leave home for one of the four essential reasons.

These are for work, for food and supplies, exercise and caregiving.

Exercise will be allowed for two hours per day and the five kilometres radius will return. This means residents can only shop or exercise within five kilometres of their homes.

Residents can exercise with another person from their household.

Masks will be mandatory whenever people leave their homes, not just in indoor settings and schools will close.

Visitors will not be allowed in homes and there will be no public gatherings. Cafes and restaurants will only be able to offer takeaway.

Gyms, pools, community centres, entertainment venues and libraries will all need to close.

The lockdown will last for five days and end at 11.59pm on Wednesday.

“We need a circuit breaker,” Andrews said.

“Victorians will be well familiar with the term ‘UK strain’. It is presenting a very real challenge to our very special thing that we have built.

“We are having cases test positive and by the time we find that case as positive, they’ve already infected their close contacts.

“We must assume there are further cases in the community than we have positive results for.”

There are currently 13 cases linked to the Holiday Inn cluster with five of them added to the official figures on Friday.

These are three family members who were in hotel quarantine, four quarantine workers, two returned travellers, two spouses of hotel quarantine workers and two primary close contacts.

Before the press conference, the health department tweeted that all of Terminal 4 at Melbourne Airport has been added to the exposure sites.

Anyone who visited on February 9th between 04.45am and 2pm must get tested and isolate for 14 days.

It brings the total number of exposure sites listed on the Health Department’s website to 30.
