10 year old or so john deere combines are holding their value because farmers want the ones that do not have the newer software

—-

not usually reported is that now you must be a deere dealer to be able to fix the combine or tractor

so it is putting the independent mechanics out of business

you are supposed to pay up to a half million $$$ for a combine and headers for it

but you do not really own it

out town lost the case-ih franchise when they went to fewer dealers

it was just a mechanic shop until last year when it closed because there were not enough small farmers with old equipment they could work on

their last mechanic , who was close to 60, now just goes around and works on your equipment at your place and keeps busy part time

they also could not get new mechanics because deere dealers are funding the college for new kids

but then they have to work at a deere dealer for 5 years

oh,i know, affirmative action is destroying the company i work for on a national level

luckily my area is not very "diverse" so it is not as bad where i am

we only get the occasinal dyke on the way up the ladder, so you just cover their work plus yours for a year or two till they get promoted on up and out

not in a city

the big packers pushed a lot of rules that swamped the locals in paperwork

put most of the small ones out of business

but a "butcher shop" used to be someone who brought in half beef and cut them to order or made hamburger

nearest small kill place is 60 miles now

hint from an old timer who told me

never take a steer to a place that sells meat also

your yield % will always be lower than at a place that just kills and wraps meat for you
