They lost on two counts:
1) They now opened the door to impeaching all PRIOR OFFICIALS that are no longer in office. Woohoo!!! BIG WIN FOR US!
2) They were unable to convict!!! ACQUITTED BABY!!
I think what he's trying to do is to dissuade those thinking that they can impeach any and all other prior officials/Presidents.
By saying that they voted Not guilty because he was not currently in office and not because he didn't incite insurrection. This way hoping to eliminate any further attempt to impeach anyone like this again.
However, just prior to the vote it was read into the record what exactly they were voting on and that was the CHARGES that were brought against POTUS Trump, not whether it was legal to try and impeach a non-sitting President.
Remember that we went into various phases of this impeachment clown show. The first phase was to decide whether they can legally proceed with impeaching a non-sitting President and they voted YES!!!! That issue was already decided on, the vote today was on whether he was guilty for the charges they had brought against him.
